CareChoice is one of Ireland's leading providers of residential and sub-acute care, committed to delivering safe, high-quality, person-centered services for residents. We are now seeking an experienced Practice Development Nurse 3 days a week to join the team at CareChoice Parnell Road.

Job Summary:

The Practice Development Nurse plays a key role in supporting this commitment by providing dedicated leadership in quality, safety, and clinical practice development.

The PD Nurse supports the Director of Nursing through oversight of audits, governance, learning, and compliance, ensuring that high standards of care are consistently delivered and clearly evidenced at floor level, in line with HIQA requirements. This role allows DONs and ADONs to balance operational demands such as admissions, discharges, MDTs, CPMS, and family engagement, while maintaining strong clinical governance.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Safety & Quality of Care

* Support the delivery and maintenance of high standards of patient safety and quality of care.
* Promote evidence-based practice and safe care delivery across all floors.
* Foster a culture of openness, learning, and continuous improvement.

Clinical Governance & Compliance

* Support the monitoring and implementation of clinical protocols, SOPs, and care pathways.
* Identify gaps in compliance with regulatory requirements (HIQA) and support immediate corrective actions.
* Provide evidence of compliance at floor level, in line with regulatory expectations.

Audits & Practice Monitoring

* Conduct regular audits in line with the agreed audit calendar and site allocation.
* Complete practice observations and spot checks on each floor.
* Review site audit reports and follow up on actions required.
* Ensure audit outcomes are shared, understood, and embedded into practice.

Incident Management & Learning

* Support incident reporting processes, including serious injuries, safeguarding concerns, and complaints.
* Assist with investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) where required.
* Ensure lessons learned are clearly communicated and translated into improved practice.

Training, Competency & Workforce Development

* Support staff with training compliance and competency development.
* Identify learning needs through audits, incidents, and observations.
* Promote reflective practice and professional development among staff.

Quality & Safety Metrics

* Track and monitor quality and safety indicators, including:
* Falls
* Pressure ulcers
* Medication incidents
* Deterioration and INEWS
* Analyse trends and escalate concerns to senior management in line with governance structures.
* Contribute to quality reports and action plans

Professional/Personal Development

Keep up to date with nursing literature, recent nursing research and new developments in nursing practice, management and education participate in training programmes and attend relevant seminars and conferences relating to nursing issues as required DON/ADON

Keep up to date with curriculum developments and undertaking clinical learning environments audits.

Identify and participate in activities that enhance your own professional development.

Support staff in the application of range of codes and policies of practice, including (but not exclusively): Scope of Practice Framework (An Bord Altranais, 2000) and the Code of Professional Conduct (An Bord Altranais,2000) in their practice.

Essential Criteria

* Registered Nurse with active NMBI registration
* Minimum 3-5 years post-registration experience
* Train the Trainer Qualification
* Experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, or practice development
* Strong knowledge of HIQA standards and regulations
* Experience conducting audits and supporting inspections
* Excellent communication, organisational, and report-writing skills
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within management teams
* Post-registration qualification in Practice Development, Quality, Education, or Leadership
* Previous experience in a Practice Development or Quality role
* Experience supporting HIQA inspections in residential care
