As an Amazon Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade our existing infrastructure, or add new services. You will be the go‑to engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation.
You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally.
You will use your mechanical expertise to:

Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions which add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability.
Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for data centers in your region.
Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, the server hardware team, environmental health & safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple geographic regions.
Act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects.
Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.

As a Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will be leading projects to fit out our data centers to meet ever‑evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper‑scale.
Key job responsibilities

Perform design and equipment submittal review for data centers in your region.
Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware team, environmental health & safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographic regions.
Act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects.
Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
Possess strong engineering judgment and be able to provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty.
Be detail and data oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes.
Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design).
Manage design and as-built drawings and documents.
Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders.
Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close.

A day in the life
Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for various aspects of the data centers. You will mentor and oversee the work of junior engineers in your discipline. You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally, with up to 25% travel.
About the team
Our Design Engineers drive data center infrastructure projects with strong engineering judgment, attention to detail, and hands‑on field experience. They manage projects and consultants, build cross‑functional relationships, oversee design documentation, and prioritize initiatives that maximize impact on safety, capacity, and availability.
Basic Qualifications

Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design.
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities including but not limited to data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer License.
Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
