R&D Mechanical Engineer
Location: Cavan
Salary: €45,000 - €65,000 DOE
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer to join a growing research and development team based in Cavan. This role will focus heavily on the mechanical design, development, testing, and validation of new and existing products.
The successful candidate will have 3-4+ years' experience in a mechanical R&D environment and will be comfortable working with data analysis, technical reporting, and presenting findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and support mechanical design activities for new product development and existing product improvement
2. Develop and test mechanical components, assemblies, and systems from concept through to validation
3. Create and review detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
4. Plan and execute mechanical testing, trials, and root cause investigations
5. Analyse test data and translate results into clear technical reports and recommendations
6. Present design concepts, test results, and project updates to internal teams and management
7. Support prototype builds and troubleshooting during development and pre-production stages
8. Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective
9. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D function
Requirements
10. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
11. 3-4+ years' experience in a mechanical Research & Development role
12. Strong mechanical design and problem-solving skills
13. Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or similar)
14. Solid understanding of mechanical testing, materials, and design for manufacture
15. Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills
16. Excellent communication and presentation abilities
Desirable
17. Experience working in a structured R&D or product development environment
18. Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments (medical devices, pharma, automotive, or similar)
19. Knowledge of FEA, tolerance analysis, or reliability testing
20. Experience supporting projects from concept through to production
