This Business Development Manager role is focused on developing business from national associations, government sectors, trade unions, SMERFs (social, military, educational, religious, fraternal), and regional corporate accounts. The role also includes strategic targeting of corporate transient business, including GDS-based accounts and relationships with travel management companies (TMCs).
Role Overview
The Business Development Manager for is responsible for identifying, securing, and converting high-value business opportunities while strengthening the visibility and reputation of both hotels in the SMERF market.
This role is designed to enable deeper focus and market ownership in priority segments, with a clear emphasis on relationship building, account development, and strategic engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Drive national awards, training, and residential meetings aligned with The Johnstown Collection
Develop relationships within SMERF's sectors
Manage the Corporate Transient Programme by targeting GDS-linked accounts, negotiating annual rates, and ensuring accurate rate setup and visibility with the Revenue Manager.
Track production using tools like Agency360 and maintain consistent account servicing.
Build and manage a portfolio of corporate and group accounts with structured engagement plans.
Coordinate site visits, FAM trips, and represent both properties at key industry events and trade shows.
Work in partnership with Cluster Director of Sales & Marketing, Sales, Revenue, and Marketing teams to align strategy, optimise pricing, and support visibility and campaign efforts.
Attend Chamber of Commerce & other relevant membership events and maintain memberships, representing the collection and building regional business networks.
Maintain CRM data and provide regular reporting on account performance, conversion rates, and GDS insights.
The focus segmentation may change in line with the needs of the business
Essential Requirements
2+ years in proactive in association, government or corporate sales business development within luxury hospitality/events
Strong understanding of the GDS and transient rate contracting process
Strong interpersonal, presentation & negotiation skills
Full clean driving licence & flexibility to travel (domestic/international)
Proficient in CRM/IT systems (Opera, Salesforce, Delphi, etc.)
Self-motivated, high-energy, and able to work independently and also as part of a high performing team.
