The Role: The Safety Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of best practice health and safety programmes which comply with current legislation.
Ensure that safety standards, policies, procedures are maintained and comply with safety legislation and the Safety Management System.
Provide guidance to staff and management on safety legislation and the interpretation of the companys rules, regulations, policies and procedures to ensure a high standard of safety is consistently met.
Support the plant in any risk assessment process leading to the implementation of the hierarchy of controls to eliminate / minimise risks to people.
Support accident / incident investigations and the close out of hazards.
Maintain a safe place of work through sampling, monitoring and auditing.
Carry out safety inductions, safety training and regular auditing of the Safety Management System.
Liaise with the HSA and other safety organisations.
Candidate: The ideal candidate will have at least five years' experience in a similar role.
They will be a highly motivated individual who can work on their own initiative with; A recognised qualification in Health & Safety (Preferably NVQ Level 7 or above) Familiarity with ISO 45001 Safety Management Standard Proven experience working in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment Practical knowledge of chemical risk assessment and control.
Familiarity with Legionella control and water safety management.
Experience in occupational hygiene monitoring (dust, noise, chemical, vibration etc.).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
