Role Purpose

The Transport Planner will implement and manage efficient and cost-effective transportation plans that support the movement of our goods. They will analyze data, traffic patterns, and logistics requirements to optimize routes, reduce costs, minimize environmental impact, and ensure timely and reliable delivery of our goods in line with delivery deadlines. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, Transport Planners play a key role in supporting operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities

* Plan and optimize delivery routes and transportation schedules.
* Monitor and analyze transport data to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
* Coordinate with drivers, warehouse staff, and third-party logistics providers.
* Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and safety standards.
* Use transport management systems (TMS) and mapping software for planning and tracking.
* Resolve transport-related issues and delays in real time.
* Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse) to align transport plans with business needs.
* Generate reports on transport KPIs and make recommendations for improvement.
* Maintain accurate documentation and transport records.
* Undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are consistent with the nature and grade of the post.


Essential Criteria


Qualifications

GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C or Equivalent Standard


Experience

Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment

Previous experience working as a transport planner / scheduler

Previous experience with transport planning software


Skills & Knowledge

Computer literate, including MS Office packages

Understanding of business processes

Ability to accurately complete paperwork

Organized and able to manage own workload

Effective communication skills

Problem-solving abilities
