The Role:
Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer on a 23-month contract basis based in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, this role will provide Level 2 technical support, focusing on network security, infrastructure automation, VMware, Azure AD, and enterprise applications like Power Apps. While not essential, knowledge or experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be an advantage as we look to adopt the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide Level 2 technical support across IT systems and infrastructure.
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to hardware, software, networking, VMware, Azure AD, Hyper-V, and cloud-based applications.
* Assist in the adoption and support of Microsoft Dynamics 365, ensuring a smooth transition and operational support.
* Maintain and improve Azure AD, Windows Server environments, and enterprise applications.
* Manage network security, including firewall configurations (SonicWall, Cisco, Dell), VPNs, VLANs, and intrusion detection systems.
* Oversee networking hardware, including switches, routers, and wireless infrastructure.
* Support secure access solutions and ensure compliance with best security practices.
* Implement automation scripts using PowerShell to improve efficiency.
* Develop and maintain system monitoring and alerting scripts to enhance proactive issue detection.
* Provide technical support across Windows, Linux, and MacOS environments.
* Assist with server administration and virtualisation technologies (VMware & Hyper-V).
* Ensure seamless integration and compatibility of multi-OS environments.
* Work closely with IMR project teams to support IT requirements for research and innovation.
* Assist in planning and implementing IT infrastructure improvements and upgrades.
* Document solutions, processes, and configurations to improve IT operations.
* Provide mentorship and training to Junior IT team members.
Required
Skills and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in IT / Computer Science or related field.
* 5 years of experience in an IT Level 2 support role, preferably in a fast-paced or research-driven environment.
* Strong networking and security knowledge, with hands-on experience in SonicWall, Cisco, and Dell networking equipment.
* Experience managing VMware virtual environments and Azure AD administration.
* Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
* Strong understanding of Windows Server, Linux, and MacOS environments.
* Ability to configure, manage, and troubleshoot VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, and access control systems.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms and hosting solutions, including AWS, Azure, and Microsoft 365.
* Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and analytical approach.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
* Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (preferred but not essential).
* Certifications in relevant areas, e.g., Microsoft (Azure, Power Platform), Cisco (CCNA), VMware, SonicWall Security Administrator (preferred but not essential).
* Experience with Power Automate and low-code automation solutions (preferred but not essential).
* Knowledge of ITIL frameworks and IT service management best practices (preferred but not essential).
* Familiarity with web hosting services (Wix, Blacknight, AWS) (preferred but not essential).
* Access to own mode of transport and legal ability to drive unaccompanied in Ireland for visits to our Dublin office and client sites.
Location:
IMR offices are located in Rathcoole, Co Dublin and Mullingar, Co Westmeath. This position is based in our Mullingar office. We offer a hybrid working model. Travel between offices and client sites will be required from time to time.
Salary & Benefits:
This position will command a package consisting of basic salary (€46,305 - €52,863 depending on qualifications and experience), employer pension contribution and 5 weeks holidays.
