Purpose of Role:

The focus of the role is to devise and deliver the embedding of a robust control framework across various areas of TCE business. With a particular focus on leading sustainability risk management and control, working with the Sustainability team and SBU sustainability teams to build capability in the business on sustainability risks and opportunities.

The role is responsible for driving risk and control ownership in the first line of defence, supporting second line assurance over controls to senior management, and where applicable, assuring these risks across the business. It acts as a point of contact between the Risk Team and front-line business functions and leaders, encompassing training, liaison, and support elements. The role will also work closely with the Head of Internal Audit, Risk and Assurance, Chief Sustainability Officer, other GLT members, SBU Directors of Sustainability, and others managing risk across the business, demonstrating how intelligent risk management and appropriate controls can enhance business effectiveness across the enterprise. Reporting to Sustainability and Audit Committees may be required.


Main accountabilities:

The risk director will lead and support the business in managing sustainability risks, implementing controls to mitigate these risks, and supporting reporting in both external and internal disclosures. The role includes understanding and addressing long-term sustainability risks and opportunities to maintain asset value, producing a 3-year resilience and adaptation plan, and supporting the delivery of the first year of the TCFD roadmap.


Sustainability Risk Understanding:

* Technical knowledge of TCFD framework - ability to analyze climate risks and opportunities, understanding their impact on TCE assets, operations, and value creation.
* Understanding climate data, metrics, tools (including stress testing and climate scenarios), and climate scenario analysis. Ability to assess decarbonization plans and provide guidance.
* Knowledge of quant universe, methods, and models including MSCI Real Assets, bridging the gap between business units and available quant tools & research.
* Technical knowledge of TNFD framework and LEAP assessment - ability to analyze nature risks and opportunities, understanding their interlinks with climate and impact on TCE assets, operations, and value creation.


Driving maturity through supporting and facilitating the delivery and ongoing support for a robust risk and control environment:

* Work with teams to identify, score, and manage risk, driving clear accountabilities aligned with operational excellence, compliance, safety, and customer experience programs.
* Collaborate with the Sustainability Reporting team to prepare disclosures related to TCFD, TNFD, and other frameworks.
* Create and oversee a clear risk escalation process.
* Develop control standards and work with governance teams to embed these standards.


Attend and contribute to Quarterly Business Reviews, Audit, and Sustainability Committees:

* Support the Head of IA, Risk, and Assurance in delivering effective risk management at operational and strategic levels.
* Assist in developing TCE-wide risk registers with clear information flows and risk/control ownership hand-offs.
* Contribute to monitoring emerging sustainability risks and escalation procedures within the business.


Most important skills based requirements:

* Risk management experience related to sustainability
* Business partnering experience
* Risk and control reporting
* Senior-level and Committee (non-executive) exposure
* Proven influencing skills
* Ability to build effective partnerships with senior stakeholders
* Strong communication skills: presenting information logically and succinctly
* Methodical planning approach
* Deep understanding of how risk management enhances organizational effectiveness, combining analytical consulting with the ability to deliver lasting change.
