Living My Life Demonstration Housing Project As service providers in collaboration, Ability West and the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland sought support to develop a Rights-Based approach to housing with an emphasis on person-centred supports, community inclusion and enablement.
The proposal sought to secure funding to enable Brothers of Charity Services Ireland - West Region and Ability West to implement Living My Life Project, which would involve a proactive model of access to housing for persons with an intellectual disability.The project aims to initially deliver 32 places over the 5-year period, which will be informed through a planning and consultation process that involves the people supported and their circle of support.
The project team has begun work with the 32 project participants to prepare them for supported independent living by building on their life skills, assisting them to find socially valued roles in their community.
Living My Life is a person-centered project designed to empower individuals by offering them the autonomy to live their lives to the fullest, with the tailored support to ensure their well-being.The people supported by the Living My Life Project benefit from a comprehensive support system that includes personalised care plans, multi-disciplinary supports opportunities for personal development and integration into the wider community creating a sense of belonging by becoming an active participant in community life.
The Living My Life project is so much more than housing it's about creating more inclusive, sustainable communities and allowing the people we support to flourish and live self-directed lives. The Role:Build a relationship of trust and mutual respect with the people you are supporting.Create opportunities and support individuals in working towards their person-centred goals and building their competencies in relation to independent living skills.Support individuals to integrate into and find socially valued roles within their community.Work with the Living My Life Project team in carrying out agreed skill building programmes with individuals as per their person-centred support plans and transition plans to prepare them for moving into and sustaining their independence in their forever home. Empower, encourage, and enable them to exercise their will, preference, and choice. Ensure their voice and choice is central to the decisions in their life.Support them to achieving a good life by developing new ideas and opportunities, and ways of working together in order to maximise their wellbeing and personal dignity.Assist individuals to support their move to supported independent living arrangements.Engage in clear, calm and effective communication with individuals in developing positive working relationships and working at the pace of the individual.Assist and enable individuals as necessary with practical tasks such as bill payment, home management, self-care, and health and wellbeing.To undertake any other such duties commensurate with the role that may be assigned by the line manager.

Find opportunities for networking.Essential:A professional degree (minimum level 7) in Applied Social CareOne-year minimum experience working with people with an intellectual disability or similar field.Have a passion and be interested to work with individuals with disabilities to fully exercise their rights as equal citizens and live a life of their own choosing.
