The Head of Care forms part of the Senior Management Team and is responsible for ensuring that all social care practice is delivered to a very high standard within the organisation and to ensure that we meet our regulatory obligations.
Responsibilities include: Policy development & implementation. To work in conjunction to the Director of Services to ensure that audits & oversight are robust in our residential centres.
The Head of Care process all referrals and has input into and final approval on all pre-admission impact risk assessments and placement proposals and is instrumental in identifying effective procedures when implementing Behaviour Support Plans and in identifying risk. The head of care is responsible for the organisational risk register and insuring that the centre managers are competent in compiling risk assessments, impact risk assessments and risk management plans. The Head of Care supports the management teams in drawing up practice guidelines for each young person/young adult/adult in our care. Key Responsibilities
Oversees Care Delivery: Ensures the highest standards of care for residents, focusing on their physical, emotional, and social well-being. This includes developing and implementing individualised care plans.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensures the centres adhere to standards set by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), National Standards for Children's Residential Centres and other relevant legislation, such as the Health Act 2007. This involves managing inspections, audits, and compliance with national standards.
Leadership
Manages, trains (where applicable), and supports care staff through the centre management teams, fostering a culture of professional development and person-centred care.
Quality and Safety
Implements policies to maintain safety, manage risks, and promote resident autonomy and dignity.
Stakeholder Collaboration
In collaboration with the other members of the Senior Management Team, works with residents, families, multidisciplinary teams (e.g., clinical psychology, occupational therapy), and external agencies to ensure holistic care.
Strategic Planning
Contributes to the operational and strategic direction of the care facility, aligning with organizational goals and resident needs.
The Head of Care reports directly to the Managing Director who may give reasonable management instruction to carry out duties not included in the above list.
Qualification
A relevant degree, such as a Bachelor's in Nursing (RGN or RNID), Applied Social Care/Science, Social Work, Health Services Management, MSc in Health Services Management, Leadership.
Experience
Significant experience in health or social care – Children's Residential Centres / Disability Services at regional or senior manager level. Experience in ensuring compliance with ACIMS / HIQA.
Skills
Strong leadership, organizational, communication skills and policy development.
Expertise in governance, risk management, and person-centred care.
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, such as HIQA standards and safeguarding protocols.
Creating a work environment that is supportive, educational and accountable.
