The Role
We are seeking an experienced
Transport Operations Manager
to take ownership of the day-to-day and strategic management of a transport and logistics operation. This role has responsibility for people leadership, operational performance, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across transport services.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure service excellence, operational efficiency, and a high-performing, engaged workforce.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership & Engagement
* Lead, manage, and motivate drivers and support colleagues
* Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and development
* Manage performance, attendance, and colleague wellbeing
* Foster a positive, safety-focused, and high-engagement culture
Operational Management
* Ensure effective resource planning across people, vehicles, and equipment
* Oversee daily transport operations to meet service commitments
* Support efficient routing, scheduling, and workload planning
* Manage outbound transport activities in line with operational requirements
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Ensure full compliance with health and safety standards and legal obligations
* Manage PPE requirements and safety initiatives
* Lead accident reporting, investigation, and preventative actions
* Ensure mandatory and refresher training is completed
Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration
* Work closely with customer service and commercial teams to resolve issues promptly
* Support new customer onboarding, including site visits where required
* Maintain strong service levels to support customer retention and satisfaction
Performance & Continuous Improvement
* Track, analyse, and report on key operational KPIs and metrics
* Identify improvement opportunities and lead operational initiatives
* Contribute to departmental projects and efficiency programmes
Financial Responsibility
* Support budget planning, cost control, and financial performance within the transport function
About You
* Proven experience managing transport or logistics operations
* Strong people leadership and performance management skills
* Solid understanding of health, safety, and compliance requirements
* Data-driven, with experience using KPIs to drive improvement
* Confident working cross-functionally with operational and customer-facing teams
* Organised, resilient, and capable of managing multiple priorities
