Job Opportunity: Commercial Underwriter
We are seeking an experienced commercial underwriter to join our dynamic business team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for underwriting and acquiring multi-line commercial business, focusing on property and liability.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* Underwrite commercial business in accordance with established standards and limits to achieve planned financial results.
* Contribute to the growth and development of the Commercial Lines business by acquiring new business while ensuring quality risk selection.
* Apply underwriting discipline through continuous monitoring of selection criteria, rating strength, and use of pricing tools.
* Manage referrals and queries for cases within the Delegated Underwriting Authority (D.U.A.) and in adherence to guidelines.
* Work collaboratively with team members and colleagues across the company to deliver excellent service standards to our customers.
* Assist in developing and implementing product strategies, actively participating in the review of performance, with a focus on growth and quality risk assessment.
* Demonstrate initiative within a team structure and uphold high standards of professionalism in all business dealings.
* Contribute to the development and mentoring of staff in technical insurance matters.
* Provide regular reports to key stakeholders on new business growth, opportunities, quality, trends, and market developments.
* Fulfill any other duties or responsibilities as reasonably assigned based on company requirements.
Your Requirements:
1. Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting experience in property and liability classes.
2. Proven track record of high-performance standards.
3. Strong technical understanding of insurance products and underwriting disciplines.
4. Pragmatic decision-maker with solid underwriting assessment and reasoning skills.
5. Quality-focused with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service and meeting deadlines.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build working relationships within teams and with internal and external stakeholders.
7. Self-motivated and proactive, with a desire to continuously develop knowledge and experience.
8. Ambitious, energetic, and possesses a positive outlook.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and underwriting applications.
10. Professional insurance qualification, preferably at a minimum level of Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP). ACII qualification is desirable.
11. Compliance with regulatory requirements as described in the Minimum Competency Code and Fitness and Probity Standards.
