OverviewSenior Consultant Economist role at AECOM in Dublin. The Economics team provides economic input into transportation and infrastructure projects, prepares Economic Impact Assessments and cost-benefit analyses, and supports governmental and private sector clients with economic advice and policy insights.About YouThe successful candidate will have a clear understanding of public sector economics and policy within an infrastructure, transportation and sustainability context. You should be an ambitious team player who can develop and communicate innovative approaches to the analysis of public expenditure in a collaborative environment, and be motivated to advance your career in a dynamic team.ResponsibilitiesCarry out economic analysis focused on project delivery and translate results into clear written narratives; support senior team members as needed.Take ownership of small to medium sized projects, delivering on time, within budget, and meeting client expectations.Participate in client-facing engagements and act as a key point of contact for assigned clients.Manage client relationships as assignments progress and assist in project management according to AECOM processes.Communicate results to diverse audiences and contribute ideas and innovative approaches across projects.Drive sales through effective bid management and ensure proposals are commercially viable.Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to business growth opportunities.Provide guidance to less experienced staff and support their development.Engage with the Transportation & Infrastructure portfolio, including economic input for projects and preparation of cost-benefit analyses in line with guidelines.Examples of workResearch and evaluation advice for Transport Infrastructure Ireland, including development of elements of project appraisal guidelines and sustainability considerations in transport schemes.Leading the detailed business case for the DART+ scheme, modelling economic and financial impacts and supporting the business case development.Economics advisory services for the National Transport Authority of Ireland, including ex-post assessments and active travel business cases.Long-term engagement with Failte Ireland on tourism investments; development of early-stage business cases and strategic assessments.Financial appraisal and cost-benefit analysis for a range of sporting investments for Sports Ireland; other cost-benefit and economic and financial appraisals for public sector projects.Measuring and evaluating public realm improvements for county councils.QualificationsDegree or Master’s qualification in economics (or related fields such as finance, mathematics, geography, engineering) from an accredited institution, or substantial equivalent experience.Excellent technical skills, strong personal initiative, and experience in a consulting firm or relevant public sector environment.Public sector focus with experience in infrastructure business cases, economic analysis (cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness), and financial appraisal, in Ireland or internationally.Experience monetising non-market benefits using revealed/preference, stated preference, or benefit transfer methods.Ability to convey complex economic issues to diverse audiences clearly; strong analytical, data management, statistics, and econometric capabilities.Experience solving issues related to infrastructure investment, labour markets, education and skills, deprivation and social inclusion, inward investment and business development.Strong written reporting skills; experience in transport sector economics is an advantage, as is knowledge of climate change, sustainability or tourism economics.We celebrate diversity, including neurodiversity, and welcome applications from all backgrounds and abilities.
