Occupational Therapist – Mental Health
This exciting position will deliver high-quality, person-centred occupational therapy interventions to adults receiving care in the Department of Psychiatry (DOP), St Brigid’s Complex. The postholder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to support recovery, engagement in meaningful activities, and discharge planning for individuals with acute and enduring mental health conditions. I would be keen to hear from Staff or Senior grade Occupational Therapists.
Responsibilities of Occupational Therapist – Mental Health
* Conduct client-centred occupational therapy assessments to determine functional abilities, roles, routines, and recovery goals.
* Plan and implement individualised occupational therapy interventions to promote mental health, independence, and social inclusion.
* Deliver both 1:1 and group-based therapeutic interventions within inpatient, outpatient, and transitional settings.
* Collaborate effectively with the MDT including psychiatry, nursing, psychology, social work, and other allied health professionals.
* Support discharge planning through functional assessments, life skills training, and community integration.
* Contribute to service development initiatives within the Department of Psychiatry and the wider Mental Health Service.
* Maintain comprehensive and timely clinical documentation in line with professional and HSE standards.
* Participate in supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and audit activities.
* Engage with and implement principles of recovery-oriented practice, trauma-informed care, and human rights-based approaches.
Requirements of Occupational Therapist – Mental Health
* A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy (e.g. BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy approved by CORU).
* Registration with the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
* Experience in acute psychiatric inpatient care and/or community mental health would be desirable but not essential
* Full clean drivers license
