Health and Safety Officer

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to implement and manage health and safety systems on-site. This key role involves working in close partnership with Group Health & Safety teams, ensuring local safety procedures align with wider organisational standards and objectives.



Responsibilities:

1. Log and investigate all incidents and near misses on-site;
2. Track trends and compile reports for Business Unit leadership;
3. Drive the ongoing improvement and application of safety policies, standards, and procedures across the site;
4. Deliver health and safety training and awareness sessions for management and staff;
5. Ensure consistent enforcement of safety practices in coordination with Business Unit Managers;
6. Collaborate with the Site Manager to plan and allocate budgets for health and safety training programs;
7. Actively engage with site-based safety teams and provide support and guidance;
8. Lead and chair site safety meetings, keeping management teams informed of key updates and initiatives;
9. Ensure all team members are appropriately trained and competent to carry out their roles safely;
10. Conduct regular risk assessments and review existing ones to maintain site compliance;
11. Manage internal audit processes, assess performance, and develop improvement actions as needed;
12. Submit monthly health and safety reports to the Site Manager, highlighting key risks and proposed actions;
13. Perform unannounced safety inspections to ensure compliance with site and group-level policies;
14. Identify and escalate any breaches of policy to the Site and Group Health & Safety Managers.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* A Health & Safety qualification (Diploma or Degree preferred);
* Minimum 1.5 / 2 years experience in a health and safety role, ideally in a food production or manufacturing environment;
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
* Ability to work independently, using sound judgement and initiative;
* Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and challenge existing practices;
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
* Training delivery experience is an advantage.
