Your New Role
Civil Engineer – Design, responsible for planning, design, and execution of various commercial and residential building projects. 8-10 years of experience ensures projects meet client specifications and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage project timelines, and mentor junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and oversee construction of commercial and residential buildings.
* Project planning, programming, and resource allocation in consultation with Operations Director; and management of those resources.
* Quality Management for all aspects of the project, including QMS/EMS/OHSAS.
* Ensure compliance with legal requirements, including project-related Health and Safety Obligations and BCAR obligations.
* Manage cash flow based on project deliverables and projected invoicing dates, issue invoices, follow up with clients, and manage project debtors.
* Communicate with Client and internally with Operations Director/Operations Manager and project team.
* Ensure new projects have a well-defined brief, a WBS, and Client acceptance of the T&Cs (normally a signed contract or fee agreement).
* Establish an agreed project programme with Client.
* Ensure all team members know their roles within the project and the budget they must work within (including hours and expenses).
* Adhere to company procedures for dealing with sub-consultants.
* Ensure all designs are prepared by competent personnel and independently checked before being issued to Client.
* Deliver what Client has asked for and not anything more than is required.
Requirements:
* A relevant degree in civil engineering.
* 8-10 years of experience in building commercial and residential projects.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient in the use of management systems.
* Excellent working knowledge of conditions of engagement or similar consultancy contracts.
* Excellent working knowledge of construction contracts, such as the Forms of Contract used under the Public Works Management Framework.
* Strong technical knowledge and design skills.
* Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
* Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff.
* Ability to ask for help when needed and early enough.
