Overview
Aldi Ireland is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Customs Manager to oversee and optimise our customs operations across the Irish business. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead a team that ensures full compliance with Irish and EU customs legislation while supporting efficient, cost-effective movement of goods throughout our supply chain.
In a fast-paced retail environment, you’ll work with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory authorities to drive strategic customs initiatives and deliver operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure Full Customs Compliance — Oversee and manage all customs-related activities to ensure compliance with Irish and EU customs legislation, including import/export regulations, tariff classification, and origin rules.
* Lead Customs Strategy — Develop and implement efficient customs processes and controls that align with Aldi’s wider logistics and supply chain strategies.
* Liaise with Authorities & Stakeholders — Serve as the main point of contact for Irish Revenue, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other regulatory bodies.
* Customs Declarations Oversight — Manage and review customs declarations and documentation to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with contractual and legal obligations.
* Risk Management — Identify and mitigate potential customs and trade compliance risks through audits, training, and continuous improvement of internal procedures.
* Support Import Operations — Provide guidance on customs clearance processes for Aldi’s product imports, ensuring minimal delays and optimal duty recovery where applicable.
* Monitor Regulatory Changes — Stay up to date on changes in customs legislation and assess their potential impact on Aldi Ireland’s operations.
* Team Development & Training — Support the training and development of internal teams to raise awareness and understanding of customs compliance across the business.
Essential Requirements
* Strong knowledge of Irish and EU customs regulations and a Certificate in Customs Compliance and Trade Facilitation, or a similar AEO qualification, advanced Excel skills, and has successfully completed the Management Assessment Centre in an internal candidate.
* Minimum of two years’ professional customs experience leading and performance managing a team of customs professionals.
* Leadership & Communication — A proven leader who motivates and manages teams effectively, communicates clearly across all levels, and produces concise, executive-level written reports that simplify complex concepts.
* Strategic Delivery & Autonomy — Able to plan ahead and deliver high-quality, results-driven solutions independently, even under tight deadlines; shows initiative, personal organisation, and a proactive approach to responsibilities.
* Critical Thinking & Improvement Focus — A strategic and critical thinker who is both data-driven and outcome-focused, with a strong track record of identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and driving change.
