Cahercalla Community Care are now inviting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Nursing - Rehabilitation
Reports To:
Director of Nursing Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Rehabilitation supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing the delivery of high-quality nursing care within the rehabilitation unit.
The ADoN is a key leader within the facility and ensures that there is fidelity to and development of the service model in tandem with the DoN (PIC), Senior RMO, visiting Consultant and the HSCP lead.
This role ensures that patient-centered care is provided in compliance with rehabilitation standards, evidence and key performance indicators.
The ADON assists in staff supervision, rehabilitation clinical program development, quality improvement, and coordination of interdisciplinary rehabilitation services.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management
Manage overall operational functions are addressed to enable service delivery, acting as the key point of contact for the service day to day.
Managing daily nursing operations within the rehabilitation department including rosters and work assignments.
Monitor and report on operational impediments to senior managers (DoN, HCM) and collaborate with therapy leads and Senior RMO to address this.
Collaborate with MDT members to coordinate comprehensive rehab care.
Assist in budgeting, supply management, and resource allocation for the nursing department.
Monitor performance and key interfaces with HSE and other stakeholders.
Clinical Leadership
Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care to ensure optimal recovery and outcomes.
Support the development and implementation of individualized rehabilitation care plans.
Ensure adherence to evidence-based rehabilitation nursing practices.
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff in rehabilitative techniques and best practices.
Staff Management & Development
Supervise, train, and evaluate nursing personnel assigned to the rehabilitation unit.
Participate in staff recruitment, scheduling, and performance reviews.
Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
Facilitate ongoing education and competency training in rehabilitation nursing.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Monitor and audit clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including Age Friendly Health Systems as well as risk (fall prevention, wound care, infection control).
Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies (HIQA, IHI etc).
Assist with SIMT investigations and quality improvement planning.
Patient & Family Relations
Support patient and family education regarding the rehabilitation process, discharge planning, and home care needs.
Promote a patient-centered culture that emphasizes dignity, safety, and functional independence.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSc Nursing) required; Master's desirable.
Experience:
Minimum 3–5 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 years in rehabilitation or post-acute care.
Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
Certifications: post registration qualification in relevant area.
Skills: Strong leadership, clinical assessment, communication, and organizational abilities.

Staff retention and engagement.
Clinical documentation accuracy.
Achievement of departmental goals (e.g. reduced readmission rates, improved patient outcomes).
