Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and delivery-focused Director of Engineering to drive the engineering function for Propylon’s product offering. This role is critical in ensuring that our engineering team consistently delivers high-quality products and solutions on time and within theagreed scope. As the Director of Engineering, you will establish and maintain engineering standards, optimise processes, and implement best practices to ensure operational excellence. You will partner closely with other technology leaders in implementing the organisation’s technical and engineering strategy, focusing on defining, implementing, and executing the engineering strategy for our products.

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader who can strike the right balance between strategic oversight and tactical execution. You will take ownership of engineering delivery, ensuring that our teams are set up for success and equipped with the right tools, processes, and methodologies to meet business objectives. This role requires someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about building efficient, scalable, and high-performing engineering organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Engineering Delivery & Execution: Own the delivery of all engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and of high quality. Establish and track clear delivery metrics and KPIs.
* Process & Standards Development: Define and implement engineering processes, standards, and best practices to ensure operational efficiency and consistency across teams. Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
* Quality Assurance & Performance: Ensure robust testing of engineering deliverables, quality assurance, and performance optimization processes are in place to maintain high standards of product quality and system reliability. Establish and track clear quality metrics and KPIs.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with technology, product, and design leaders to align on priorities and ensure seamless delivery of product initiatives. Facilitate strong communication and collaboration between engineering and other functions.
* Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop engineering talent. Build a high-performing team that is aligned with the company’s values and delivery expectations. Identify skill gaps and create development plans to elevate team performance.
* Risk Management & Problem Solving: Proactively identify and address technical and operational risks that could impact delivery. Be hands-on in troubleshooting and resolving issues when necessary.
* Process Optimisation: Continuously evaluate and refine engineering processes to optimise speed, efficiency, and quality of delivery. Implement tools and methodologies that streamline development and reduce bottlenecks.
* Vision & Strategy: Own the engineering strategy for our products, ensuring alignment between long-term goals and day-to-day execution. Work with senior technology leaders to contribute to the technical vision and strategy of the organisation.
* Stakeholder Communication: Provide visibility to senior leadership and key stakeholders on project status, delivery timelines, and any potential challenges. Establish transparency and build trust through effective communication.

Qualifications:
* 10+ years of hand-on software engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior engineering leadership role.
* Proven experience in leading the successful delivery of complex engineering projects in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong understanding of engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices (e.g., Agile, Lean, DevOps).
* Experience with building scalable, high-performance systems and applications.
* Demonstrated ability to optimise and implement processes that enhance delivery speed and quality.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Ability to balance technical depth with a strong focus on delivery and operational efficiency.
* Experience working in collaboration with cross-functional teams in a product-driven organisation.

This role is based in our Dublin headquarters office, in Rathfarnham, South Dublin, though we operate a very flexible hybrid model which facilitates regular home-working.
