The role
Role Overview:
As a People Technology Integration Engineer, Workday, you will design, build, and evolve integration and data solutions across SIE's global Workday platform and broader HR technology ecosystem.
This role operates as an independent contributor within People Technology Services, owning the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable system integrations, enabling seamless data movement, system connectivity, and interoperability across platforms.
Working within an Agile product delivery model, you will participate in the continuous evolution of integration capabilities and the stability of core data flows, partnering closely with Platform Engineers, Product Managers, and Data teams.
What you'll be doing:
Integration Engineering & Solution Design
Design, build, and implement scalable integration solutions across the Workday platform and connected systems, including:
Workday Studio
Core Connectors and EIBs
API-based integrations (REST/SOAP)
Define and apply integration design patterns that promote scalability, reusability, and maintainability.
Design secure and reliable data flows, including transformation logic, orchestration, and error handling.
Evaluate integration approaches and make informed design decisions, balancing business needs, system constraints, and long-term sustainability.
Own end-to-end delivery of integration solutions, including design, build, testing, and deployment readiness.
Integration Architecture & Platform Connectivity
Contribute to the design and evolution of integration architecture across the People Technology ecosystem.
Ensure consistent patterns for system connectivity, data exchange, and interface design.
Document integration designs, data flows, and technical architecture to support maintainability and governance.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enable seamless end‑to‑end system interactions.
Data Engineering & Reporting Solutions
Design and deliver data extracts, reporting solutions, and document generation capabilities (e.g., BIRT, Docs for Layouts) as part of the broader People data ecosystem.
Develop and maintain calculated fields and data structures to support integration and reporting use cases.
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across integrations and downstream systems.
Platform Reliability & Operations
Maintain reliability of integration pipelines through proactive monitoring, issue diagnosis, and resolution.
Identify root causes of failures and implement structural improvements to enhance stability and performance.
Optimize integrations for performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
Partner with team members to prioritize enhancements and manage competing demands.
Delivery & Agile Execution
Translate business and technical requirements into well‑defined integration solutions.
Participate actively in Agile delivery, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
Own and deliver assigned workstreams within sprint cycles.
Execute and support testing activities (unit, integration, UAT), ensuring end-to‑end data validation.
Collaborate with Platform Engineers and functional partners to deliver integrated, cross-domain solutions.
Governance, Security & Quality
Ensure all integration solutions meet data privacy, security, and audit requirements.
Implement secure data exchange practices, including encryption, authentication, and secure file transfer (e.g., SFTP).
Follow established governance, release management, and change control practices.
Ensure integration solutions align with platform architecture and engineering standards.
Contribute to improving integration standards, documentation, and engineering practices.
What we're looking for:
5+ years of hands‑on experience with enterprise platforms, including design and delivery of Workday integrations.
Demonstrated experience building and deploying integrations using Workday Studio, Core Connectors and EIBs, and API-based integrations (REST/SOAP).
Proven track record to design and troubleshoot integration solutions, including data transformation, interface logic, and failure handling.
Experience implementing secure data exchange mechanisms, including encryption and secure file transfer.
Hands‑on experience developing Workday reports (Advanced, Matrix, Composite) and calculated fields.
Solid understanding of the Workday Core HCM data model and data flows across integrations and business processes.
Experience translating requirements into scalable technical solutions, evaluating trade‑offs between speed, complexity, and maintainability.
Experience working in Agile delivery environments, with ownership of defined workstreams or sub‑projects.
Ability to clearly articulate personal contributions to delivered solutions, including specific integrations and technical components.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Workday Orchestrate.
Familiarity with Workday Security model.
Exposure to Workday functional domains (e.g., Absence, Compensation, Talent).
Experience working within global enterprise environments across multiple regions.
Experience contributing to integration standards, architecture, or engineering practices.
Profile
Strong engineering approach with deep technical expertise in integrations and data movement.
Operates independently while aligning with architectural standards and team practices.
Meticulous with a focus on data integrity, system reliability, and scalability.
Practical and delivery-focused, balancing speed, quality, and long‑term sustainability.
Effective communicator who can bridge technical and functional perspectives.
Comfortable working in an evolving environment, with a willingness to expand into new tools and technologies.
Demonstrates curiosity, continuous learning, and a proactive approach to improving both individual capability and team outcomes.
