Overview
UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager II Surgical Day Care on an 11-month fixed term contract. The CNM II has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area, and will lead the implementation and provision of quality care.
Responsibilities
Professional / Clinical The CNM II will:
- Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence-based care planning approach
- Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership
- Coordinate, assess, plan, deliver and review service user care by all staff in the designated area
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users in line with NMBI guidelines (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland)
- Participate in teams, meetings and committees as appropriate, communicating with other team members
- Facilitate coordination, cooperation and liaison across healthcare teams
- Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment and care
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care with personal involvement and supervision of other qualified nurses
- Ensure care is based on evidence-based standards and hospital policy
- Regularly evaluate and monitor patient care using hospital quality systems
- Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and maintain a welcoming ward environment
- Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team to promote teamwork and high-quality care
- Evaluate and develop the department\'s philosophy, objectives and goals
- Ensure staff are familiar with equipment use and maintenance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
Managerial Responsibilities The CNM II will:
- Supervise, coordinate and deploy nursing and support staff to deliver optimum care in the designated area
- Manage ward/department communication and team-building
- Provide staff leadership and motivation for good working relations and performance
- Manage resources efficiently
- Lead practice development within the clinical area, lead and implement change
- Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures; monitor and drive improvements
- Contribute to policies and procedures at area and hospital level
- Support the Assistant Director of Clinical Services Theatres and deputise when required
- Maintain clinical and administrative records and reporting
On-call The post holder is expected to participate in the on-call manager\'s rota.
Staff Development and Education Ensure care is based on individual assessment of needs and promote this within the ward team
- Ensure staff development and induction programmes for trained and untrained staff
- Ensure each staff member has a personal development plan
- Facilitate an environment that promotes reflective practice
Clinical and Professional Leadership & Evidence Based Practice Promote evidence-based nursing practice and develop standards of care using research findings hospital-wide
Promote quality and safety through the hospital\'s quality and patient safety programme
Clinical Governance Participate in innovation and change in patient care delivery, contribute to service planning based on best practice, measure and audit care effectiveness, and maintain governance principles including risk and health & safety; report incidents and near misses as per policy; contribute to policy development
Accreditation Familiarise with policies and guidelines related to clinical care; assist in policy review under direction of department leadership
Lean Lead and participate in lean projects; problem-solve and improve with lean tools; attend on-site training as required
Quality & Safety – Safe Culture Participate in quality programs, develop performance indicators, and drive audits per JCI, hospital policy and lean requirements
Information Governance Ensure confidentiality of patient and staff information; handle records securely
Qualifications & Experience
* Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI
* Have completed a Management Course or commit to undertake one
* Minimum 5 years qualified with previous medical environment experience
* Previous management experience is essential
* Experience in change management
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Awareness of HR policies and procedures
* Working knowledge of Microsoft packages
* Active role in continuous improvement using lean tools
* Excellent communication skills; effective with medical staff, multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives
* Ability to implement change with new nursing developments
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, promoting teamwork and patient care
* Strong leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills
