We are seeking a talented Principal Project Manager to join our Project Management Office (PMO) and support the delivery of projects within our Planning, Property & Advisory team. Our clients include leading names in aviation, highway, rail, energy, and water industries, relying on WSP for expert planning and consent advice to ensure successful project initiation. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse team, serve as the primary client interface, and oversee project delivery.
The Principal Project Manager will oversee project objectives, resources, and delivery within time, cost, and quality constraints. Responsibilities include project and commercial governance, stakeholder engagement, mentorship of junior staff, and strengthening client relationships to enhance project delivery and commercial performance.
Our hybrid working policy provides flexibility to work from home and collaborate in our UK offices.
Role Responsibilities
* Manage project scope and change control processes.
* Oversee project timelines, monitor critical paths, and report progress.
* Act as the primary client interface, providing updates and managing expectations.
* Manage project budgets, financial performance, and reporting.
* Forecast costs, perform Earned Value Management (EVM), and report to clients.
* Identify and manage project risks and opportunities.
* Coordinate resources and costs, ensuring alignment with forecasts.
* Implement scheduling controls and ensure project controls are maintained.
* Ensure adherence to quality procedures and safety standards.
* Lead opportunities and bids as required.
* Identify process improvements for better delivery.
* Manage contracts, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Lead technical delivery teams and mentor junior project managers.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Relevant degree qualification.
* Membership of a professional institution.
* APMP Project Management Qualification (PMQ).
* Strong analytical and coordination skills.
* Experience with regulated industries and managing cross-disciplinary teams.
* Understanding of contracts, especially NEC contracts.
