Job Title: Endoscopy Nurse
This role is for a skilled nurse who will be working in the endoscopy department of a hospital. The ideal candidate will have experience in caring for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the safe and efficient use of equipment, including endoscopy monitors, suction apparatus, and diathermy machines.
2. Update the endoscopy register and ensure accurate patient information is entered into the system.
3. Monitor stock levels and manage supplies effectively, considering budgetary implications.
4. Assist with drug preparation and checks, adhering to established protocols.
5. Participate in 'time out' procedures to ensure patient safety.
6. Assist with biopsies, maintaining patient comfort and monitoring vital signs.
7. Verify biopsy specimens and laboratory forms to ensure accuracy.
8. Document all relevant procedure information.
9. Transfer patients safely back to the Day Surgery area.
10. Follow policies for scope processing and cleaning.
11. Record accurate start and finish times for each procedure.
12. Support staff in adhering to medication management policies.
13. Complete reports and send them to the Director of Nursing as required.
14. Mentor new clinical staff and provide guidance to colleagues.
15. Develop effective communication and interpersonal relationships within the multidisciplinary team.
16. Collaborate with link lecturers from affiliated nurse education departments to maintain UPMC Kildare Hospital as a recognized Learning Environment.
17. Meet agreed responsibilities set by the Unit Manager or Director of Nursing.
18. Communicate effectively at all times.
19. Have a working knowledge of ABA publications, including the Scope of Practice Framework and Code of Professional Misconduct.
20. Maintain professional registration and submit verification annually.
21. Stay up-to-date with departmental and hospital-wide policies and guidelines.
22. Develop IT skills to work efficiently within the clinical environment.
23. Have a working knowledge of iSoft and other relevant systems.
24. Continually risk assess the unit environment to ensure patient safety.
25. Report incidents and complaints according to hospital guidelines.
26. Liaise with the Scheduling Team regarding bed allocation and theatre slots.
