As part of the PATH 4 Phase 1 Inclusive Environment Fund, the Higher Education Authority (HEA) have awarded funding to MTU for the hiring of a graduate intern to lead the embedding of capacity enhancement actions to create presence, awareness and understanding of marginalisation based on ethnicity and race. Location, level and relationship within management structure: The Race Equality Graduate Intern will work with the MTU EDI team, where they will receive mentoring, guidance and professional development opportunities. This line management arrangement may be amended as MTUs organisational structure of the project evolves over time. This position can be based in either Cork or Kerry Campus. Please note the postholder may be required to travel between MTU Campus locations(two Kerry campus sites and four Cork campus sites) to meet with staff and students to develop actions across MTU. Travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses are allowable. Role and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for tasks including but not limited to the following: Help plan and deliver workshops and short learning sessions about racial equality, cultural understanding, and allyship for students and staff. Support the delivery of training on inclusive recruitment and fair selection processes. Help write and design a Guide for Combating Racism and Promoting Racial Equality. Assist in running a campus-wide awareness campaign through posters, social media, and events. Work with staff and students to make sure campaign messages are clear, accessible, and engaging. Help create welcoming spaces for students and staff to share experiences about race and culture. Work with others to strengthen connections between underrepresented communities and the wider MTU community. Collect information and examples of good practice in promoting racial equality at other institutions. Help gather feedback from campus events and discussions. Contribute to short reports or updates for the EDI Manager and other teams. Support projects that increase visibility and representation of diverse groups across campus. Help plan lasting initiatives that promote belonging and mutual respect. Suggest new ideas to make equality and inclusion part of everyday campus life. This role will complement existing EDI action plans and commitments with respect to anti-racism education, including cultural competency, unconscious-bias and allyship training for wider staff groups while targeting those involved in recruitment and talent selection. The successful candidate will have qualifications and experience as follows: Essential A minimum Level 8 honours degree in any discipline background. Experience that indicates the potential of the applicant to perform the main duties of the post. Desirable: Proficient communication skills and are well able to communicate orally, in writing, or via electronic means, as appropriate to audience requirements. Clear organisational skills and are capable of prioritising and meeting deadlines. Effective interpersonal skills and are well able to relate to others and to establish good working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. High standards of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong IT skills for preparation of presentations, reports and analyses. Efficient administrative experience which demonstrates a competence on the systems and structure which support the functioning of the University. Terms of Appointment: Salary Range: €30,079.00 - €32,408.00 per annum pro-rata. Capacity: Fixed-term, whole-time position up to 31 December 2026 35 hours per week.
