Physiotherapist – Paediatrics
The Paediatric Physiotherapist will provide high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy services to children (0–18 years) presenting with a range of developmental, musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, and neurological conditions within Primary Care, Galway City East.
The role focuses on early intervention, health promotion, prevention, and short- to medium-term intervention in line with national primary care strategy under the Health Service Executive (HSE). The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary Primary Care Team (PCT) to support children and families in community settings.
Responsibilities of Physiotherapist – Paediatrics
Assess, diagnose, and manage a paediatric caseload within Primary Care.
Provide intervention for children presenting with:
Developmental delay
Coordination difficulties (e.g., DCD)
Musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., flat feet, toe walking, postural concerns)
Mild neurological presentations
Orthopaedic and gait abnormalities
Deliver individual and group-based interventions.
Develop home programmes and empower parents/guardians to support therapy goals.
Liaise with preschools, schools, and community partners where appropriate.
Refer to specialist or secondary care services when clinically indicated.
Maintain clear, accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HSE and GDPR standards.
Participate in service planning, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support implementation of national primary care reform initiatives.
Engage in continuing professional development (CPD).
Participate in student supervision (if Senior grade).
Requirements of Physiotherapist – Paediatrics
BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or equivalent recognised qualification.
CORU registration as a Physiotherapist (or eligible for registration).
Clinical experience in paediatric physiotherapy (including student placements).
Knowledge of normal child development and paediatric conditions.
