This position is to lead a newly created Engineering Department incorporating new product and process development, process optimisation/improvement and environment functions. The candidate will be responsible for investments in manufacturing machinery, tooling and other production equipment, ensuring that investments are right‑sized to achieve optimal flexibility with minimum investment and reduced risk of write‑off losses due to changing demand patterns and/or technology. The role will also capitalize on advantages available from new technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Strategic Manager of multiple technologies, including all local site services (air, water, electricity).
Develop and implement systems, procedures and protocols that meet Quality Management System and Design Control requirements.
Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality regulations.
Develop and implement a complete asset management system including maintenance functions.
Identify and select best‑value technologies.
Prepare annual operational and capital expenditure budgets.
Manage agreed budgets, hiring, day‑to‑day operations and project resourcing.
Deliver profitable, on‑time product/project launches.
Prioritise and drive execution of multiple complex department projects, sponsoring value improvement.
Ensure efficient transfer of process knowledge to manufacturing engineers and coordinate training of production team members on new processes and equipment.
Support a culture of continuous improvement aligned with the customer’s quality policy.
Initiate cross‑functional partnerships to identify and resolve production/engineering issues.
Provide managerial, leadership and employee development, including adequate training to satisfy operational, health and safety requirements.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Minimum a degree in Engineering with at least 5 years’ senior‑level experience in a manufacturing environment.
Organised, highly motivated, goal‑focused individual with strong project management skills.
Technically astute, numerate and possessing excellent analytical ability.
High confidence team player with a quality‑focused and innovative problem‑solving approach.
Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with people and situations at all levels.
Strong people‑management and communication skills, including effective presentation capabilities.
Knowledge of latest plastic injection mould, metal stamping and automation technologies.
Proven knowledge of technology deployment.
Understanding and application of quality concepts such as PSW/PPAP/APQP and lean principles.
Strong business and financial acumen with ability to measure effectiveness.
