Job Title: Pool Lifeguard
Reports To: Pool Supervisor / Duty Manager
Location: ALSAA Pool and Gym
Job Purpose
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pool users by maintaining vigilant supervision, enforcing pool rules, responding effectively to emergencies, and delivering a high standard of customer service.
The Lifeguard will also assist in the daily operation and upkeep of the pool facilities, supporting ALSAA's commitment to providing a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain constant supervision of the swimming pool and surrounding areas.
Prevent accidents by enforcing pool safety rules and promoting safe behaviour.
Respond quickly and effectively to all emergencies, administering first aid, CPR, or water rescues as required.
Carry out daily water tests and record results in line with operational and health & safety standards.
Assist with pool set-up for classes, training sessions, and events.
Ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the pool, changing rooms, and surrounding areas.
Provide excellent customer service to members and guests, assisting with queries or concerns in a polite and professional manner.
Support the wider ALSAA leisure team as required, including cover for other operational duties.
Attend mandatory training, staff meetings, and lifeguard requalification sessions.
Requirements
Current RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) (or equivalent).
Strong swimming ability and high level of physical fitness.
Knowledge of pool safety standards and emergency procedures.
Excellent communication, observation, and teamwork skills.
Friendly, approachable, and customer-focused attitude.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as part of a rota.
Desirable
First Aid at Work or AED qualification.
Experience working in a leisure or sports facility.
Swim teaching or coaching qualification (STA/ASA).
