Mid to Senior Electrical Estimator / Quantity Surveyor Position:
Electrical Estimator / Quantity Surveyor (Mid to Senior Level)
Location:
Cork, Ireland (hybrid – mix of office, site visits, and remote working;
travel as required for projects)
Reporting to: Commercial Manager / Senior Management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate costing, tendering, and commercial management of electrical works on projects across commercial, industrial, and data centre sectors.
This is a hybrid role, combining office-based collaboration, remote work, and site attendance, with travel nationwide as required
Key Responsibilities Estimating
Prepare detailed, accurate, and competitive electrical cost estimates for tenders and projects.
Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications (LV/HV distribution, containment, cabling, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm, ICT, and building services).
Measure quantities and prepare bills of quantities (BoQ) for electrical packages.
Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations for electrical materials and installation works.
Conduct risk and value engineering analysis on electrical systems.
Ensure all estimates comply with ET101 / IS *****:**** (Irish National Rules for Electrical Installations) and other applicable standards.
Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management
Manage electrical project costs from tender through to completion.
Prepare, submit, and negotiate valuations, variations, and final accounts for electrical works.
Monitor and report on electrical project budgets, cash flow, and cost performance.
Review contract documents and ensure compliance with Irish construction law and electrical standards.
Provide commercial support to project managers and site teams.
Negotiate commercially with clients, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
RequirementsQualifications
Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Building Services, or related discipline.
Membership of professional body (e.g., SCSI, RICS, or equivalent) desirable.
Safe Electric (RECI) knowledge or familiarity with Irish electrical compliance requirements is an advantage.
Experience
Minimum 5+ years' experience in electrical estimating and/or electrical quantity surveying in Ireland or the UK.
Proven track record delivering commercial, industrial, or data centre electrical projects.
Strong knowledge of electrical systems including:
HV/LV power distribution
Lighting & emergency lighting
Cable management and containment systems
Fire alarm, security, and ICT installations
Earthing and bonding systems
Skills
Strong understanding of Irish electrical codes, standards, and industry regulations (IS *****:****, ETCI, CIBSE, relevant BS/EN standards).
Excellent ability to interpret and quantify from electrical drawings and specifications.
Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Trimble/Amtech, ConQuest, Buildsoft, Candy) and strong Excel skills.
Numerically strong with excellent commercial awareness.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tenders/projects.
Flexible for hybrid work and occasional travel nationwide.
