We're partnering with an ambitious company to find a Senior Payroll Manager who will own payroll governance and delivery across multiple European jurisdictions.
This isn't a typical payroll role. You'll be the central point of accountability for payroll outcomes, managing outsourced providers, navigating international complexities, and building world-class processes from the ground up.
What You'll Do
Own the Entire Payroll Function
* Take end-to-end accountability for payroll accuracy, compliance, and delivery across Ireland, UK, Germany, Austria, Finland, and expanding entities
* Act as the internal expert and custodian of payroll results, even when execution sits with external providers
* Be the vital link between HR, Finance, and payroll providers, ensuring seamless coordination and flawless execution
Master International Complexity
* Lead payroll for expatriate employees, managing tax equalisation, shadow payrolls, and cross-border compensation arrangements
* Partner with external tax advisors to navigate complex statutory obligations and ensure compliance
* Provide expert guidance on international payroll policy and risk mitigation
Drive Provider Excellence
* Manage and elevate relationships with outsourced payroll providers across multiple countries
* Set clear SLAs, quality standards, and accountability frameworks
* Push for continuous improvement in data flow, reporting accuracy, and issue resolution
Build Robust Governance
* Design and implement payroll controls, reconciliation practices, and audit-ready processes
* Ensure compliance with local employment law, tax regulations, and GDPR requirements
* Champion data privacy and secure handling of sensitive employee information
Lead Systems & Innovation
* Drive payroll system integration with HRIS and Finance/ERP platforms
* Create meaningful dashboards and reporting for Finance and HR leadership
* Identify automation opportunities and implement best practices
Develop Your Team
* Manage and mentor a direct report handling contractor payroll
* Build capability and set high performance standards
What You Bring
Essential Experience
* Substantial
hands-on payroll experience
, ideally managing
multi-country payroll
or overseeing external provider outputs
* Deep knowledge of international payroll complexities including expat management, mobility programs, and multi-jurisdiction compliance
* Strong background in payroll controls, reconciliations, governance frameworks, and audit preparation
* Proven ability to manage relationships with HR, Finance, and external partners
Technical Excellence
* Comprehensive understanding of payroll regulations, GDPR, and data protection requirements
* Strong analytical mindset with excellent systems and process skills
* Outstanding attention to detail and ability to spot issues before they become problems
* Clear, confident communicator who can translate technical payroll matters for senior stakeholders
