Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic part-time teacher to assist our team during a very exciting time at Dublin Zoo.
This fixed-term contract runs from March ****** to June ******* and is site-based, working ***** hours per week predominantly Monday–Friday, with some weekend work required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach all Dublin Zoo learning programmes following the zoo's programme plans.
Ensure professional delivery of learning programmes to high standards in conservation education.
Build rapport with learners to promote engagement and maintain a positive attitude toward learners at all times.
Design and deliver Dublin Zoo camp and workshop programmes and assist in their organisation.
Work constructively with department members to peer review learning programmes.
Participate in reflective practice to develop teaching skills – giving and receiving feedback on learning programme delivery.
Liaise with teachers/parents to ensure a high-quality learner experience.
Maintain educational resources including teaching spaces and equipment.
Observe and implement Dublin Zoo's Health and Safety standards and child safeguarding principles.
Have an interest in the zoo's purpose, together with a flexible approach to working duties and hours.
Perform other duties as assigned from time-to-time, including administrative duties for the overall success of the Conservation Education Department.
Qualifications
A qualification to degree level in zoology, biology, sustainability, conservation, education, or a related field.
Previous experience of teaching learning programmes to young people.
Ability to build rapport with young people and maintain a positive attitude toward young people at all times.
Experience in designing and developing learning programmes or lessons.
Knowledge of the Irish primary and secondary school curricula.
Knowledge of wildlife conservation, sustainability and the work of zoos.
Ability to understand learner needs and adapt teaching approach to meet these needs.
A positive attitude with an adaptable and flexible approach.
A passion and energy for conservation education and working with young people.
Highly organised: excellent forward planning skills and ability to manage priorities.
A high level of competency in Microsoft packages and email.
