The role of Estimating Manager involves providing leadership and guidance to the estimating team, ensuring that estimates are accurate and reliable. This includes reviewing and revising existing processes to improve efficiency and productivity.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing and other building services systems. They will be able to interpret drawings and specifications, perform accurate take-offs, and prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
Key Responsibilities
* Lead Estimating Team: Provide direction and support to the estimating team, ensuring they have the resources and information needed to complete their tasks efficiently.
* Further Development of Estimating Department and Systems: Continuously review and revise estimating processes to ensure they are up-to-date and effective.
* Maintain WIP List: Oversee the workflow of the estimating team, ensuring that all projects are progressing as expected.
* Tendering Desired Projects: Work with senior management to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical estimating, preferably within the M&E sector. A third-level qualification in surveying, cost engineering or building services is desirable, but not essential. The ability to interpret drawings and specifications, perform accurate take-offs, and prepare detailed BOQs is crucial for success in this role.
In addition to technical skills, the successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Strong time management skills and a high level of IT competence are also essential.
