Job DescriptionMain FunctionThe Project Design Engineer is responsible for transforming client-issued ductwork layouts and specifications into detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings. This includes both modular and traditional ducting systems. The role spans the full project lifecycle—from pre-order design (as required) through to production handover ensuring compliance with technical standards, cost efficiency, and schedule adherence.Essential CriteriaHonours degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Minimum of 3 years' experience in mechanical design or building services engineering.Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks; working knowledge of Revit and BIM coordination.Experience with CAD automation tools (e.g. DriveWorks).Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.Fluent English; legally eligible to work within the EU.Familiarity with relevant ducting and ventilation standards (e.g. SMACNA, DW144).Willingness to adopt innovative technologies, including AI tools, to enhance design efficiency and accuracy.Core ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary technical contact for assigned clients and contractors.Create and maintain detailed SolidWorks/Revit models and fabrication drawings for ductwork, plenums, and related components.Produce material take-offs and part lists; coordinate with production and engineering teams to ensure manufacturability.Integrate duct designs into federated BIM models (Navisworks) to detect and resolve clashes prior to fabrication.Generate custom installation and component drawings (e.g. flashings, transitions, coving, Unistrut layouts, logistics plans).Implement and maintain CAD automation using DriveWorks to streamline repetitive design tasks.Develop project-specific area codes aligned with schedules, feeding data into Excel-based and future CAD-to-CAM workflows.Manage and maintain project documentation using construction management software (e.g. Procore or equivalent).Liaise with consultants, quantity surveyors, and commercial teams to refine scope and validate designs.Coordinate with procurement, operations, and fabrication teams to resolve technical queries.Support shop floor teams during project handover by providing complete and accurate drawing packages.Participate in design reviews and respond promptly to RFIs and technical queries.Ensure all design outputs meet required quality standards and project specifications.Additional ResponsibilitiesMaintain a high standard of professionalism and integrity in all work activities.Adhere to Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety (QEHS) policies and procedures.Contribute to departmental and company-wide objectives, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.Comply with all internal systems and procedures, including documentation, process adherence, and performance reporting.Provide regular updates on departmental KPIs as agreed with the line manager.For further information please contact Thomas in Brightpath INDTW
