Social Care Worker - Children\'s Services - 39 hpw Permanent Contract - Ref C095

CoAction West Cork is seeking a Social Care Worker for Children\'s Services on a 39 hpw permanent contract. This role reports to the Children\'s Services Coordinator.

Overall Purpose of Position

To take responsibility for the day-to-day activities in the group home. To assist the Social Care Leader in responsibility for health and safety, programme implementation, personal care plans, budget management, staff planning, staff support and family liaison.


Job Goal

To listen to, learn from, support and work to achieve the priorities of the residents in compliance with the National Standards for Residential Services Children and Adults with Disabilities 2013 and the Health Care Act 2007 (Care and support of residences in designated centres for persons with disabilities) regulations 2013. To provide them with a home-from-home in accordance with CoAction\'s Mission Statement.


Responsibilities

* Main Responsibilities
* Care for the day-to-day needs of residents in compliance with Health Care Act 2007 regulations and the Childcare Act 1991 and all relevant regulations and standards that apply to Children in care.
* Promote, create and maintain a welcoming, caring and supportive environment in the Group Home with a high standard of care.
* Treat residents with dignity and respect; attend to physical and emotional needs.
* Encourage group participation in daily activities (cleaning, budgeting, cooking, menu planning, shopping, recreation).
* Contribute to a programme of stimulating activities and assist residents in developing hobbies.
* Escort and assist on group outings.
* Ensure residents are not subjected to abuse or bullying.
* Implement agreed service user programmes in liaison with the Social Care Leader.
* Maintain relevant records to a high standard.
* Assist with hygiene and domestic duties to maintain a clean and tidy house.
* Maintain good relationships with clients\' families and other professionals under guidance.
* Participate in staff meetings; ensure health and safety guidelines are adhered to; report accidents/incidents/complaints per CoAction policies.
* Provide regular reports to the Social Care Leader/Area Manager and be alert to hazards in premises or equipment.
* Develop skills through training; deliver induction and training to residential staff as agreed; supervise staff as required.
* Contribute to the development of CoAction and ensure policy adherence; maintain confidentiality.
* Carry out other duties as agreed with the Social Care Leader/Area Manager; teach daily living social skills; administer and record prescribed medications.
* Health & Safety
* Practice correct use of aids and appliances (e.g., hoists); report accidents/incidents; follow safety duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
* Report faulty equipment; be aware of emergency actions and ensure fire and safety precautions are in place.
* Leadership
* Under the direction of the Social Care Leader/Nurse, manage, develop and support staff; induction, supervision and training; participate in coordinated plans to meet residents\' needs.
* Hold supervision meetings with support staff; set goals and ensure adherence to policies; develop effective communication with residents, families and stakeholders.
* Promote dignity at work and respect; foster residents\' independence and advocacy; handle complaints per policy.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications: A recognised qualification involving a third-level supervised practice element, or a recognised professional qualification for Social Care (e.g., Youth and Community Degree, BA/Hdip, NQSW/BSW/MSW, Nursing Qualification (RGN/RNID/ENMH), HETAC/DIT diplomas, RNID, RNMH recognised, etc.). Driving licence is essential.

Skills

Interpersonal skills; ability to relate to people with intellectual disabilities; flexibility; willingness to learn; ability to work on own initiative; knowledge of advocacy; ability to write reports; computer literacy; good communication; leadership ability.

Experience

Essential Experience: Minimum 12 months in a residential setting with adults with an intellectual disability; good knowledge of HIQA; supervisory and budgetary experience; intimate/personal care; record keeping.

Desirable Experience: Experience with HIQA regulations and inspections.


Remuneration

* The remuneration is per the CoAction 2024 salary scale for a Social Care Worker: €38,108 to €50,954 per annum.
* Pay scale may increase in 2025 under the WRC agreement for 39 organisations.
