Social Care Assistant at Jerpoint Camphill
Camphill Communities of Ireland are recruiting for a Social Care Assistant.
Overview
The post holder will work as part of a day and residential support team to help individuals discover what constitutes a good life and determine the supports needed to achieve their goals. The role requires flexibility in timing and location of supports, in partnership with the social care team and important people in the individual’s life. The successful candidate should be able to participate proactively as a team member and contribute to ongoing development of effective teamwork.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Advocacy & Rights - Respect each person who uses the services as an equal citizen; uphold and respect the rights of individuals; empower personal autonomy; facilitate and develop choice and decision-making; support self-advocacy and community involvement; promote personal hobbies and interests; foster self-help and social skills.
2. Person Centred Support for Living - Ensure a person-centred approach to service delivery; support individuals with aspects of individual and group responses including occupation and leisure activities, communication, behaviour support plans, independent living skills, social integration, personal care, and personal development.
3. Skills Development - Foster self-care skills, personal hygiene, health matters and personal appearance; provide physical and personal care support (moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, dressing, bathing, toileting, eating assistance, sleep support, skin care, first aid, health promotion).
4. Health & Appointments - Attend medical appointments as required; ensure a healthy and nutritious diet honoring individual choices.
5. Home & Community - Support residents in participating in their home environment and community; maintain standards of the home and surroundings; participate in resident reviews and implement person-centred plans as needed.
6. Transport & Outings - Achieve competency in driving centre transport and participate in transport duties; assist with organisation of centre outings; flexible start/finish times may be required.
7. Team & Records - Accept delegated responsibility for the physical and emotional well-being; maintain accurate records including needs assessments, risk assessments, incidents, file notes, communication plans, behavioural management, health action plans, medication management, and financial records; report concerns to the Person in Charge (PIC); report accidents/incidents and take appropriate action; ensure transport needs are communicated to staff.
8. Policies & Compliance - Adhere to service policies, procedures and codes of practice; ensure records are up to date and managed in the service’s records system; ensure reports, timesheets and financial statements are accurate and timely.
9. Other - Contribute to and support centre outings; participate as a full team member and support vulnerable adults.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
* Hold a minimum of a QQI Level 5 Major Award on the QQI Framework or equivalent qualification in Social Care/Community Health or related field.
* At least 1 year’s experience working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
* Understanding of current policy and developments in social care within disability services.
* Ability to follow plans and methods to meet ongoing needs; effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
* Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
* Full driver’s licence and availability of own car.

* Salary Scale: €30,272 to €37,483 per annum (40 hour week)
* Duration: Full Time 40 hrs per week – Permanent; Part Time 24 hrs per week – Permanent
