The role
A well-established and progressive main contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their project delivery team on a major construction project in Dublin. This is a key role within the project team, responsible for managing the flow of design information, coordinating between consultants and site teams, and ensuring all technical deliverables align with programme and construction requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Coordination & CommunicationCoordinate design information between consultants, architects and the construction teamEnsure all issued drawings, specifications and technical details are clearly communicated to site teamsBuild and maintain strong working relationships with the external design teamSubmittals & Technical ApprovalsManage the full technical submittal process from initiation through to approvalDevelop and maintain a detailed submittal register aligned with the project programme and procurement scheduleTrack submission status and follow up to ensure timely approvals in line with agreed turnaround periodsWork closely with commercial teams to progress approvals for alternative or equivalent materialsSubcontractor InterfaceEngage with subcontractors to coordinate design deliverables including shop drawings and technical submissionsChair and minute coordination meetings, agreeing key deliverable dates such as fabrication, delivery and installationOversee the flow of information required for BCAR compliance and O&M documentationRFI & Information ManagementMaintain and manage the RFI register, ensuring queries are issued, tracked and responded to within required timeframesFacilitate effective communication between subcontractors and the design team to avoid delays in the design development processEnsure continuity of information flow throughout the shop drawing and coordination stagesProgramme & ComplianceMonitor design-related deliverables against the construction programmeTrack method statement submissions and ensure feedback is received within agreed timelinesSupport quality control planning by ensuring all required design information is available in advance of worksBCAR & Project DocumentationCoordinate documentation required for BCAR compliance, ensuring records are accurate and up to dateEnsure inspection notifications are planned and communicated in line with the project scheduleSupport the compilation of O&M manuals and handover documentationMeetings & ReportingAttend and record key coordination and production meetings with subcontractors and design teamsProvide regular updates on design progress, risks and bottlenecks to the project leadership teamRequirementsDegree-qualified in Engineering (Civil/Structural) or Construction ManagementExperience in a Design Manager or similar coordination role with a main contractor or specialist contractorProven experience working on large-scale construction projectsResidential project experience is highly desirableStrong understanding of design processes, technical submittals and construction sequencingFamiliarity with BCAR processes and documentation requirementsExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsHighly organised with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple information streamsBenefitsOpportunity to work on a significant construction project in DublinJoin a reputable contractor with a strong pipeline of large-scale projectsCollaborative working environment with a focus on quality and deliveryCompetitive salary and benefits package
