Canada Street Medical is seeking a skilled and motivated General Practice Assistant / Phlebotomist to join our friendly, patient-centred team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a structured, busy environment and who takes pride in supporting the smooth delivery of patient care in general practice.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting our clinical team with a variety of clinical and administrative duties, ensuring an efficient workflow and a high standard of patient service.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support
Perform phlebotomy for routine and urgent blood tests.
Prepare and label specimens for collection or courier.
Record observations such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, height, and BMI.
Assist with ECGs, urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests as required.
Support chronic disease management clinics (e.g., diabetes, cardiac, respiratory).
Maintain clinical rooms, ensuring infection control and stock management procedures are followed.
Administrative Support
Update patient records accurately on the clinical system (Socrates).
Manage test result workflows and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
Handle patient queries professionally at reception or by phone as required.
Support the practice in maintaining a safe and organised clinical environment.
Assist in recall systems, health promotion and screening programmes.
Essential Requirements
Experience in phlebotomy (certificate or equivalent training).
Prior experience in a general practice or primary care setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Competence in basic IT systems; experience with Socrates is highly desirable.
Understanding of confidentiality, infection control and health & safety procedures.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desirable Attributes
Additional clinical skills such as ECG, BP monitoring or urinalysis.
Experience supporting chronic disease or vaccination clinics.
CPR / Basic Life Support certification.
A positive, adaptable approach and genuine interest in patient care.
