Job Description
You’ll be joining the Garden Design Systems team, an international, remote-first group of talented systems practitioners. We’re in an exciting chapter of Zendesk’s customer experiences expanding in capability and being driven by AI. The Garden Design Systems team helps craft how human, intelligent, and scalable experiences are made across Zendesk.
You are a motivated designer with a passion for design systems and a strong foundation in your craft. You are detail-oriented, with high standards for visual and interaction design, and you have a knack for spotting patterns and opportunities for consistency. You are developing your skills in accessibility and localization and eager to collaborate with end-users and colleagues to build robust, clear, and refined systems. You value stepping back from the artboard to focus on relationships and communicating our design system to cross-functional partners. You appreciate the importance of consistency but are open to feedback and change.
What you’ll be doing
* Contribute as a key member of a small team that makes a significant impact
* Help evolve our product design system, Garden, by applying and documenting component usage, patterns, anti-patterns, and visual layouts
* Participate in projects from start to iteration, recognizing that design is never 'finished'
* Write and maintain documentation to enable product managers, designers, and engineers to utilize Garden effectively
* Collaborate with UX engineers to transform Garden components into implementable artifacts
* Work with global teams to establish UI pattern usage and industry standards
What you bring to the role
Basic Qualifications
* 2–4 years of experience designing consumer or SaaS applications
* Understanding of current and emerging UI patterns, considering their impact at scale
* Drive to innovate in enterprise software design using modern web UI patterns and technologies
* Strong communication skills, verbal and written
* A visual portfolio demonstrating your work and systems-oriented approach
* Flexibility to work with a global team
Preferred Qualifications
* 1–2 years of experience with design systems
* Experience designing accessible and localized UI
* Experience working remotely
* Nice-to-have: motion design skills
Tool stack
* Figma, especially design system features
* Markdown for documentation
* Github for reviews and QA
* HTML, CSS, React — ability to discuss implementation with developers
This role offers a hybrid work experience, combining onsite collaboration with remote flexibility. Specific onsite days are to be determined by the hiring manager.
