Role: Lead Automation Engineer

Location: Dublin (Onsite)

Contract: 12 months

Onsite hours per week

Here at Hays we are working with a Pharmacuetical client in North Dublin that has an opportunity for a highly skilled Automation Engineer with a minimum of 5+ years' experience to join our team supporting the implementation of OT projects.

The Automation Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of automated systems in compliance with industry regulations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in process and building automation, PLC/SCADA, PCS and BMS systems, and working within GxP environments.

Main Responsibilities:

* As the principle lead automation project engineer for a range of CapEx automation projects, ensure the delivery in adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
* Design, program, and implement automation solutions for manufacturing processes and critical systems, ensuring they meet operational and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control strategies and integrate new automation technologies into existing systems.
* Participate in the installation, commissioning, and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of automated systems and equipment.
* Ensure all automation systems meet the necessary GMP, GxP, and FDA regulatory standards.
* Prepare and review validation documentation, including test protocols, reports, and design specifications.
* Provide technical support for automated systems, diagnosing and resolving any hardware, software, or process issues.
* Ensure that all changes are documented according to change control processes and regulatory guidelines.
* Adhere to data integrity principles and ensure automation systems are compliant with 21 CFR Part 11.
* Work closely with process engineers, IT, quality, and validation teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of automation systems.
* Liaise with vendors and third-party contractors during the design, installation, and support of automation systems.
* Support the site sustaining team as required to troubleshoot, recover and implement software improvements on manufacturing systems.

Knowledge, abilities & experience

* Minimum of 5+ years of experience in automation engineering within the life sciences industry (pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or medical devices).
* The preferred candidate will have experience working with Siemens Desigo BMS and ABB Cylon with process knowledge of HVAC and building controls.
* Strong understanding of GMP, GxP, and FDA guidelines and their impact on automated systems.
* Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley), SCADA systems (e.g. iFix, Intouch) and BAS (Siemens Desigo)
* Experience with PCS systems (PCS7) and system integration.
* Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC).
* Strong knowledge of electrical control circuits (Digital, Analog, ATEX)
* Knowledge of virtualised operating systems (VMware ESXi)
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex automation issues.
* Strong project management capabilities
* Ability to work independently and in a team, to take direction and offer support.
