Our client is seeking a Research & Development (R&D) Laboratory Coordinator to support innovation, technical expertise, and operational excellence. This position will play a key role in driving carbon reduction initiatives and advancing circular economy strategies, as well as supporting product quality and process improvement across the organization.
The successful candidate will be based in the R&D Laboratory at the client's site in Drogheda and will report directly to the Head of R&D.
Main Responsibilities
Product & Process Development
* Evaluate new raw materials and alternative fuels for clinker manufacturing.
* Contribute to product development projects focused on low-carbon cement solutions.
Technical Marketing Support
* Provide technical advice and support to the commercial team.
* Monitor product performance in the market and investigate customer concerns.
* Assist with the launch of new cement products to customers.
Production & Process Support
* Perform specialist testing to support both production facilities, including clinker mineralogy, burnability, grindability, thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), and x-ray diffraction (XRD).
* Analyse production and quality data, providing recommendations for improvement.
Laboratory Management
* Ensure all laboratory activities are carried out in line with Health & Safety requirements.
* Carry out testing, interpret results, and present clear recommendations.
* Coordinate with external laboratories and technical service providers as needed.
* Manage the servicing, upgrading, and replacement of laboratory equipment.
* Maintain inventory of consumables, reagents, and chemicals.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong background in laboratory techniques, including powder and wet chemistry.
* Sound knowledge of chemical principles with analytical problem-solving ability.
* Keen interest in cement, concrete, and materials technology.
* Clear communication and technical writing skills.
* Good awareness of chemical safety standards and laboratory best practice.
* Proficiency with IT systems, record keeping, and data management.
* Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
* A collaborative team player with leadership potential.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree-level education (BSc or higher) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Geology, or a related discipline.
* Industrial experience in a similar laboratory or technical role.
* A proven track record of contributing to business performance and adding value in previous roles
