Job Description
Duties
This is a developmental opportunity, no experience necessary. Accredited training will be provided to support your career.
Organisation: Saints Mary and Peters CE Scheme; provides a range of support and services for the local community. The scheme is based in Árus Lorcáin, Arklow. It offers work experience, training, belonging, confidence, and knowledge development, with the aim of enhancing employment and educational opportunities for participants.
Position: based in Arklow Cancer Support. The scheme provides emotional support and practical help to people affected by cancer and their families and friends.
* The person will be responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds, including the sensory garden surrounding the support centre.
* Looking after plants, flowers, mowing the grass, weeding, repairing structures, and maintaining the exterior of the building for visitors and their families.
* Preparing vehicles to ensure journeys are as comfortable as possible.
* Repairs & Maintenance: assist in repairing and maintaining items, systems and components (e.g. furniture, windows, doors, bathroom fixtures) to ensure safe working condition.
* Maintains tools and equipment to keep items available in safe operating condition.
* Cleaning: cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g. drains, walkways, roads) to prevent flooding and remove waste or hazards.
* Cleaning of smoking bins, domestic waste bins and recycling materials.
* Grounds keeping: maintains grounds keeping equipment and ensures it is available and safe to use.
* Maintenance: mowing, weeding, fertilising, spraying weeds, and wood cutting to preserve grounds in a healthy and attractive condition.
* Gardening: upkeep of plants and landscaping materials (lawns, shrubs, flowers, trees, hedges, weeding) to keep areas attractive.
* Preparation: prepares grounds (avenues, flower beds, banks) for community gatherings and activities to provide attractive and safe areas.
* Health & Safety: responds to safety or operational concerns and takes appropriate action to resolve issues. Removes snow from paths, roads, and parking areas for a safe environment. Assists in setting up rooms and outdoor areas for functions and events. Applies sand and salt during snow and icy conditions for safety.
