Title: Porter / Attendant
Reporting to: SETU Novus Accommodation Manager
Job Purpose
The Porter/Attendant plays a key role in providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, guests, and visitors.
The role involves a balance of security, maintenance, and customer service responsibilities, ensuring that campus accommodation runs smoothly and residents feel supported in their living environment.
The Role
SETU Novus Campus Accommodation consists of:
City Campus: 94 apartments accommodating 360 students/summer guests.
College Campus: 18 apartments accommodating 66 students/summer guests.
Carlow Campus: One house accommodating 7 students.
You will normally be based at City Campus but may be required to carry out duties at College Campus as needed.
The role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining a positive residential experience.
Main Duties
Security & Welfare
Ensure the safety and security of the building, residents, and visitors.
Patrol corridors and communal areas during shifts.
Lock and secure all designated gates and doors at night.
Monitor and manage noise levels, addressing disruptive behaviour in line with accommodation policies.
Provide support to students in distress and escalate welfare concerns appropriately.
Complete end of shift online report and ensure a full and thorough handover takes place at the end of each shift.
Health & Safety
Promote a safe environment by following company policies and procedures and complying with all relevant laws and regulations.
Report any hazards, risks, or safety concerns to the Accommodation Manager.
Undertake regular fire safety and alarm checks as directed.
Be aware of emergency response procedures and provide assistance when required.
Maintain a general awareness of first aid practices (training will be provided if not already certified)
Maintenance & Cleaning
Carry out light maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, moving furniture, or other minor repairs.
Report defects and faults with maintenance or equipment (e.g., CCTV, access control systems).
Ensure the interior and exterior of the building are maintained to a high standard, following the daily cleaning specification sheet and completing any additional tasks that may be assigned.
Follow up on resident maintenance requests and ensure timely reporting.
Administration & Customer Service
Complete the security logbook at the end of each shift.
Record and report incidents or unusual occurrences to the Accommodation Manager.
Complete and submit incident reports in line with procedures.
Answer phones, take messages, and assist residents/guests with requests (e.g., information, directions).
Check in visitors and guests when required.
Provide courteous and professional front-line support to residents and visitors.
Use accommodation management systems to log incidents, maintenance requests, and visitor details (training provided).
General
Handle, follow up, and communicate any comments or complaints appropriately.
Liaise closely with the Accommodation Manager and colleagues.
Undertake other duties as reasonably assigned from time to time.
Person Specification
Essential
Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in a facilities, security, or customer service role.
Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
Basic IT literacy for logging reports and using accommodation systems.
Flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Desirable
First Aid or Fire Safety training.
Trade/maintenance qualification.
Previous experience in student accommodation, hospitality, or residential environments.
Training & Support
Induction and on-the-job training will be provided, including first aid, fire safety, safeguarding, and use of accommodation management systems.
Ongoing professional development opportunities will be supported.

Contract length: 12 months
Pay: €***** per hour
