Role Purpose
The Head of IT & Digital Transformation will provide strategic and operational leadership for IMI's information technology and digital capabilities, ensuring that technology effectively enables IMI's mission as Ireland's leading executive education and professional development institution.
This is a hands-on senior leadership role, responsible for the reliability, security, and evolution of IMI's IT services, while also driving digital transformation, process automation, data maturity, and innovation across learning delivery, client engagement, and internal operations.
The role balances day-to-day IT operations excellence with longer-term digital strategy, governance, cybersecurity, and change leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Develop, own, and deliver IMI's IT & Digital Transformation Strategy, aligned with IMI's organisational strategy and growth objectives.
Lead the modernisation of systems, platforms, and processes, including learning technologies, enterprise applications, and collaboration tools.
Identify, evaluate, and implement digital solutions that enhance:
Champion innovation, automation, and data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
Act as a trusted technology advisor to the Executive Team and senior stakeholders.
2. IT Operations & Service Delivery
Lead and manage the IT function to deliver high-quality, reliable, and responsive IT services.
Ensure availability, performance, and resilience of all core systems and services.
Oversee daily IT operations including:
Establish and maintain effective IT service management practices (incident, problem, change, and asset management).
Manage and continuously improve helpdesk and end-user support experience.
Oversee the design, operation, and optimisation of IMI's IT infrastructure, including:
Manage core cloud services and integrations.
Ensure infrastructure is secure, scalable, cost-effective, and future-ready.
Lead technology refresh, lifecycle management, and technical debt reduction.
Act as IMI's lead for cybersecurity and IT risk management.
Establish, implement, and maintain IT and cybersecurity policies covering:
Oversee security tooling and controls, including:
Ensure alignment with recognised standards and frameworks (e.g. ISO ***** / ISMS principles, NIS2 awareness, GDPR).
Provide regular reporting on IT risk posture, incidents, and mitigation plans.
Establish and maintain strong IT governance frameworks covering decision-making, risk, security, and investment.
Lead procurement and management of IT vendors, service providers, and technology partners.
Negotiate and manage contracts, SLAs, and performance.
Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring value for money, cost control, and transparency.
Ensure compliance with IMI's governance obligations and best practice public/education sector standards.
6. Data, Reporting & Insights
Oversee core data systems and ensure data quality, integrity, and governance.
Support the development of management reporting, dashboards, and analytics to inform decision-making.
Collaborate with academic, commercial, and operational teams to improve insight from data.
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing IT team.
Provide clear direction, coaching, and professional development.
Foster a service-oriented, collaborative, and inclusive culture.
Promote digital capability and confidence across IMI through training and change management.
Contribute actively to IMI's leadership culture, values, and organisational development.
Lead IT and digital projects from conception to delivery.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to agreed outcomes.
Manage dependencies, risks, and stakeholder communication.
Establish clear KPIs, milestones, and benefits realisation tracking.
IT Frameworks & Performance Metrics
The role will apply recognised IT and digital management frameworks (e.g. ITIL, COBIT, digital maturity models) and will be accountable for measurable outcomes, including:
Operational Metrics
System availability and uptime
Incident response and resolution times
Change success and rollback rates
Security & Risk Metrics
Security incident frequency and severity
Patch and vulnerability remediation timelines
Backup success and recovery test results
Digital Transformation Metrics
Adoption and utilisation of digital tools
Process automation and efficiency gains
Reduction in manual work and rework
Stakeholder satisfaction with digital services
Budget variance and cost optimisation
ROI on technology investments
Work Location and Virtual Work:
This role is based at IMI's headquarters in Dublin.
Travel within Ireland and, occasionally, internationally is required to attend meetings, conferences and client engagements.
Education & Experience
Minimum 7–10 years' experience in senior IT leadership roles.
Proven experience leading IT operations and digital transformation in a complex organisation.
Strong background in:
Experience developing and implementing IT strategies, policies, and governance frameworks.
Demonstrated success managing vendors, budgets, and service providers.
Experience leading teams and managing significant workloads in a dynamic environment.
Experience in education, professional services, public sector, or not-for-profit environments.
Experience implementing enterprise systems (CRM, ERP, learning platforms).
Experience working within or alongside an ISMS.
Experience with digital change management and organisational transformation.
Strategic thinker with strong execution capability.
Hands-on technical leader with sound architectural judgement.
Strong people leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
Highly organised, analytical, and detail-oriented.
Able to prioritise effectively and work to tight deadlines.
Pragmatic, resilient, and outcomes-focused.
Formal Qualifications
NFQ Level 8 (or higher) degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Professional Certifications (Desirable)
Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2, APM)
IT Service Management (ITIL)
Cybersecurity (CISSP, CISM, ISO *****)
Cloud certifications (Microsoft Azure)
