to appoint a
Financial Controller
to work with their
CFO
.
Role Purpose
The Financial Controller is the CFO's principal operational finance lead and deputy across the Group. The role holds full responsibility for financial control, reporting integrity, and day-to-day finance leadership, ensuring the business has strong foundations as it scales.
The
Financial Controller role
: owns the engine room of finance, translates strategy into disciplined execution, and provides the CFO with reliable insight, control, and bandwidth. The FC will ensure that reporting, controls, cash, compliance, and systems operate to a high standard across a complex, multi-entity environment.
Core Responsibilities
Financial Control & Group Reporting
* Own the Group's financial control framework, ensuring robust general ledger discipline, balance sheet integrity, and a controlled month-end close across all entities.
* Deliver accurate, timely monthly management accounts, consolidated reporting, and supporting analysis for the CFO and senior leadership.
* Lead preparation of annual budgets, reforecasts, and rolling forecasts, ensuring consistency, realism, and accountability across the business.
* Produce clear variance analysis and trend reporting, providing insight into performance drivers rather than commentary alone.
* Act as the CFO's first line of assurance on financial accuracy and control standards.
Cashflow, Working Capital & Treasury
* Take ownership of cashflow forecasting, liquidity management, and working capital control across the Group.
* Monitor debtor performance, creditor management, and funding requirements, ensuring proactive visibility of risks and opportunities.
* Support banking relationships, covenant reporting, and funder requirements as required by the CFO.
Operational & Commercial Finance
* Partner closely with operational and commercial leaders to ensure strong financial discipline across projects and contracts.
* Oversee project financial management including WIP, cost-to-complete, margin tracking, and identification of commercial risks.
* Support pricing, tender reviews, and investment decisions with robust financial analysis and scenario modelling.
* Embed consistent financial processes and controls within operational teams, balancing commercial pace with governance.
Statutory Reporting, Audit & Compliance
* Lead delivery of statutory accounts across all entities and jurisdictions, coordinating external auditors and advisors.
* Ensure compliance with tax, VAT, payroll, and sector-specific regulatory requirements.
* Maintain strong internal controls and governance processes, identifying and addressing control gaps as the business evolves.
* Support the CFO on tax planning and structuring initiatives with external advisors.
Finance Team Leadership
* Lead and manage the finance team, setting clear expectations, responsibilities, and performance standards.
* Develop team capability through coaching, recruitment, and succession planning as the organisation scales.
* Drive consistency, ownership, and continuous improvement across transactional and reporting functions.
* Act as the day-to-day point of escalation within Finance.
Systems, Processes & Scale
* Own finance systems and data integrity, working with the CFO to ensure systems are fit for scale and complexity.
* Lead process improvement, standardisation, and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and control.
* Strengthen reporting frameworks to support better decision-making and future growth.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications
* ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified.
* Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Group FC, or number Finance lead in a busy, operational business.
* Strong background in multi-entity environments; multi-jurisdictional and project-led experience highly advantageous.
* Demonstrated track record of strengthening controls, improving reporting quality, and leading finance teams.
* Experience supporting a CFO in a scaling or change environment.
Skills & Capability
* Strong technical accounting and financial control expertise.
* Highly competent in group reporting, consolidation, and balance sheet management.
* Commercially aware, with the confidence to challenge operational and stakeholders constructively.
* Strong systems and process mindset; excellent Excel skills and experience improving finance platforms.
* Organised, resilient, and comfortable operating at pace.
