Job Purpose
The Security Officer is responsible for leading, assigning, training, and evaluating the activities of security officers within the Emergency Department. They assist with the functions of physical and personal security and safety measures for members, patients, staff, and visitors. The officer protects staff and property from theft or damage, and ensures individuals are safeguarded from hazards or interference, including potential violence in the workplace. They conduct periodic tours to check for irregularities and inspect protection devices and fire control equipment. They preserve order and may enforce regulations pertaining to personnel, visitors, and premises.
The Security Officer reports to the Assistant Security Manager. The role requires flexible hours and the management of various projects according to the needs of the hospital. The officer regularly communicates and coordinates with healthcare staff, emergency services, and provides emergency assistance as needed. They frequently interact with patients, visitors, volunteers, and staff, ensuring all incident reports are recorded as required.
