Group Low Voltage Electrical Instructor – Mercury Headquarters, Ballycoolin, Dublin
Introduction
The goal for the Mercury Group Commissioning Function is to improve project level performance and predictability on key milestones such as IST and RFS through consistency and standardisation of processes at project level. The Group Low Voltage Electrical Instructor will work within the Group Commissioning Support Function and require a technical and personable approach to deliver successfully. Responsibilities include working with other support functions (Safety, Quality, Planning, Data & Analytics, Digital Transformation, Operations, etc.) to plan, execute, monitor and control deliverables to the highest standard. Travel to mainland Europe may be required to enhance training development and awareness.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain Mercury AP training course material and physical infrastructure at the Blackberry Training and Development Centre Ballycoolin, with updates approved by the Group Commissioning Support Manager.
Manage and maintain the Low Voltage Electrical Safe Principles Course and the course for Leaders at the Ballycoolin Training Centre.
Evaluate candidates completing the courses.
Oversee and manage the initiative, including Safety, Quality, Administration, Planning coordination. Work directly with BU Operations leads and each Business Unit Head of Commissioning to ensure training rosters meet project responsibilities.
Run training courses at capacity, with the number of courses per month agreed with the Manager, ensuring a balanced intake of Business Units.
Prepare course material and provide it to candidates upon attendance.
Order and manage catering for attendees.
Communicate feedback from the course to Business Unit Operations to support individual performance improvement.
Coordinate and share documentation with EHS Training for candidate certification and update the Excel tracker for Power BI reporting.
Report weekly and monthly progress on training and competence, identifying support needed per business unit. Report format to be established with line manager.
Support the accreditation process with City & Guilds for the training courses.
Develop, maintain and present specific electrical awareness presentations on Mercury projects as required.
Project Visits
Audit and verify that project SAP’s, AP’s, and Energy Marshall’s comply with Group expectations set in the Operational LV and MV SOPs, as well as associated Audit and Inspection SOPs and company guidelines.
Support successful candidates who have completed the Low Voltage Electrical Safe Principles course and are gaining relevant experience on a live project prior to appointment.
Complete all project audits in CxDE (CX Digital Environment).
Miscellaneous Duties
Work with the Digital Transformation Lead to train on and understand the CxDE system as a “Super User” and help improve COHE/LOTO processes and procedures.
Develop a Group-level safety standard for COHE on all projects relating to signage and prerequisites for introducing permanent power onto a project site.
Meetings and Reporting
Weekly and monthly reporting on progress related to the following shall be agreed with line manager; KPI to be agreed:
Mercury Training Course delivery and maintenance.
Mercury Training Course planning, attendance, and outcomes.
Opportunities for further development and updates to training content.
Travel
Travel will be coordinated around the training course roadmap and will only be required for specific instances of auditing or presenting.
All travel to be planned and agreed with line manager.
Qualifications
Relevant certification/accreditation as an Authorized Person.
Qualification in training such as QQI award or equivalent, having completed a “Train the Trainer” course.
Qualified Electrician or Electrical Engineer.
Proven experience (>10 years) in a senior authorized persons role managing/operating HV/MV and LV networks.
Experience in medium and low voltage operations in the construction industry.
Strong understanding of Electrical Safety Standards and Code of Practices.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Training and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Project management skills are essential.
Relevant qualification in low voltage testing and verification with proven experience (>10 years).
Data Centre, Oil & Gas and Pharmaceutical construction experience preferred.
Competent with Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and BIM360/ACC.
