Staff Nurse Pre-Assessment Job Description
The role of the Staff Nurse Pre-Assessment is to work collaboratively as an integral member of the nursing and multidisciplinary team involved in providing high-quality, evidence-based care to patients who attend the Pre-Operative testing and assessment clinic.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and undertaking necessary investigations.
* Identify and manage existing medical conditions that may impact surgical outcomes, ensuring patients receive optimal care and support.
* Coordinate and facilitate necessary pre-operative tests, such as blood work, ECGs, MRSA screening, and imaging.
* Recognize and escalate any potential risks to the appropriate consultant or anaesthetist, prioritizing patient safety.
* Optimize patients for surgery by ensuring they are fit and adequately prepared, reducing the risk of complications.
Administrative Duties:
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring all pre-assessment documentation is complete and compliant with regulatory requirements.
* Review and communicate test results effectively, ensuring seamless communication with colleagues and patients.
* Schedule follow-up assessments, maintaining a smooth workflow and minimizing delays.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department, driving continuous improvement and excellence in care.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Be registered in the general division of the register of nurses kept by NMBI, demonstrating a strong foundation in nursing practice.
* Experience in Phlebotomy is essential, with a background in ECG recording being highly desirable.
