Overview of Role
UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic is looking to recruit a Part‑time Staff Nurse for a 6‑month contract to work as a member of the Anaesthetics/Recovery team. The role involves providing high‑quality, patient‑centred care to patients and their families, maintaining good relationships with the multidisciplinary team, and collaborating with nursing colleagues to develop innovative practice.
Working hours: 25 per week. Job type: Fixed Term.
Location: Sports Surgery Clinic.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide, maintain and develop patient‑centred care to a high standard.
Organise nursing services in the theatre and administer the unit effectively.
Work autonomously in the theatre area, providing skilled assistance to the Anaesthetist.
Plan, implement and assess care of patients.
Actively participate in on‑call, late‑stay and weekend duties as required.
Maintain an awareness of patient primacy in all clinic activities.
Create and promote healthy working relationships.
Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the clinic’s values.
Ensure the best possible standard of nursing care in pre‑operative and post‑operative areas.
Assess patient care needs and communicate with relatives and visitors as required.
Set and monitor standards.
Participate in the clinic’s accreditation programme and continuous quality improvement initiatives; implement and maintain theatre procedures.
Keep CNMs and the Theatre Manager apprised of all issues.
Qualifications & Experience
Registered General Nurse, registered with An Bord Altranais.
Theatre or Anaesthetic Course desirable but not essential.
Minimum of 5 years post‑registration experience, including anaesthetic & recovery nursing.
Experience managing a team of nurses, ideally in an orthopaedic facility.
Computer literate.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work autonomously, prioritise and manage multiple issues simultaneously with attention to detail.
Capacity to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
Free from any defect or disease that would render the candidate unsuitable for the role, and in a state of health indicating the ability to render regular and efficient service.
High character and good standing.
