Overview
The Road Commission is hiring a Traffic Signal Technician (Electrician) in the Traffic Safety Department, Electrical Division. The technician will perform skilled manual and technical work for over 1800 electrical devices countywide, including traffic signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, and repair at all times of day, including inclement weather, nights, holidays, and weekends. A two-year training program will be provided as needed.
Duties
* Maintain, clean, repair, troubleshoot, and install traffic signal equipment and other electrical devices according to Road Commission specifications.
* Operate, troubleshoot, and program traffic signal parameters and implement timings.
* Use a variety of tools and equipment related to traffic signal maintenance.
* Troubleshoot and repair devices during outages or malfunctions to ensure proper performance.
* Operate and maintain emergency generators during power outages.
* Operate and drive various truck-mounted aerial lift devices.
* Install, repair, and maintain underground conduits, handholes, and overhead and underground wiring/cables, along with other electrical power equipment.
* Maintain accurate electronic records of tasks, troubleshooting, and repairs related to traffic signals and equipment malfunctions, ensuring safety standards are met.
* Respond to emergencies involving traffic signals and other electrical devices.
* Assist with the maintenance and repair of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, including traffic loops, video detection systems, and wireless communication systems.
* Assist with electrical work for building and grounds at Road Commission facilities as needed.
* Follow safety standards to establish proper work zones, working near traffic and using aerial bucket trucks within established zones.
* Perform duties professionally and courteously to promote a positive image of the Road Commission.
* Maintain a work schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation.
* Ensure regular and predictable onsite attendance is maintained.
Special Experience/Education
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid State of Michigan driver’s license.
* Valid State of Michigan CDL-A driver’s license (air brake endorsement) or ability to obtain one.
* Willingness to work overtime as required.
* 2 to 3 years of electrical training or trade school experience.
* Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician License preferred.
* IMSA Traffic Signals Technician certification preferred.
* Training or experience with the Electrical Code (NEC) preferred.
