Hygiene
Job Purpose: To lead a team of hygiene operators in achieving their daily targets, yields and efficiencies through effective cleaning / handover of the factory.
Reports To: Hygiene Manager.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure all aspects of the hygiene service are carried out and maintained to required standard.
* Schedule the annual, bi‑annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily cleaning schedules into a concise and achievable weekly plan in line with staff availability.
* Maintain and keep up to date the cleaning sequence in line with the Hygiene Management System and ensure strict adherence to the sequence by hygiene operatives.
* Supervise, assist and audit the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule including paperwork sign‑off to verify acceptable standards of cleaning have been met.
* Update, maintain and regularly review hygiene records and schedules.
* Manage the hygiene team working hours and ensure all expenditure is authorised and recorded.
* Manage the ordering and stock control of hygiene consumables and chemicals.
* Maintain detailed cleaning instructions (CIC'S) and standard operating procedures (SOP's) and schedules for every hygiene activity that meet the requirements of the BRC and other relevant customer food safety standards.
* Be familiar with the COSHH system, making sure all SDS are in place.
* Work with other teams to keep high standards (Maintenance, Technical, Production & H&S).
* Resolve any issues resulting from hygiene activities; analyse production hand‑over and non‑conformance reports and commence corrective actions.
* Liaise with the appropriate departments to reconcile issues resulting from or impacting on the hygiene department (e.g. maintenance issues or end of production standards).
* Responsible for periodic cleaning of air handling evaporators and refrigerant evaporators in the high‑care and low‑care areas.
* Oversee the day‑to‑day upkeep of the staff facilities including staff washroom facilities, offices, corridors, canteen, changing areas and all associated equipment.
* Conduct compliance audits/inspections of internal hygiene standards and documentation.
* Manage the provision of hygiene chemicals and dosing equipment on site – including regular reviews with chemical supplier, daily chemical dosing checks, maintenance of equipment and oversight of the safe storage, decant, transport and use of chemicals on site.
* Understand any possible changing cleaning and chemical needs of the site, keeping abreast of advances in the industry to gain an improved understanding of cleaning practices, chemical efficacies and industry regulations.
* Carry out ATP, Environmental and Pathogen swabs as per schedule. Support the Technical team in obtaining daily ATP swabs and other microbiological swabs as required for testing. Participate in microbiological investigations or projects to drive improvements in the site hygiene standards.
* Conduct trials of new chemicals and equipment to drive continuous improvement in the cleaning and hygiene standards.
* Ensure all new equipment is assessed and has an up‑to‑date CIC.
* Ensure sufficient staffing levels are in place to cover all absences and holidays.
Health & Safety
* Conduct COSHH (or equivalent) assessments, risk assessments and document safe systems of work for all hygiene tasks.
* Ensure hygiene staff are trained and competent in all procedures relevant to their role, including the use of heavy equipment and machinery listed above.
* Provide emergency response training for all relevant staff.
* Ensure all tasks are conducted in accordance with all legislative, company and site health & safety policies. Ensure all hazards, accidents / incidents are reported and investigated in a timely manner.
* Maintain material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product information (PI) for all chemicals used on site, updating regularly and keeping them accessible to all relevant staff.
* Ensure PPE is available and well maintained for all relevant staff and is used in line with site health & safety policies.
* Be an active member of the site Health & Safety Committee.
Other
* Recruit, induct, train and develop competent employees.
* Provide cover in the event of inadequate staffing due to unforeseen circumstances such as sickness.
* Ensure all disciplinary incidents and staff absences are dealt with in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with the company human resource policies.
* Effectively communicate with all team members on a regular basis and provide opportunities for feedback.
* Develop strong working relationships and participate in projects as requested to drive continuous improvement.
* Provide key performance indicator data as required and comply with all internal and external audit requirements, including representation of the Hygiene Department during key customer audits.
* Actively comply with, and enforce all relevant statutory, company and site policies and procedures.
* Conduct employee Performance Development Reviews on a regular basis and establish training and development plans.
* Carry out any reasonable request of your line manager in order to meet the needs of the business.
* Be available for any training related to the role.
Skills / Qualifications / Experience
* A competent professional with proven experience of managing and leading a hygiene team within a food manufacturing environment.
* Flexible approach to working and committed to working evening/night shifts and occasional weekends.
* Experience of working within a compliance/standard driven environment to BRC level or equivalent regulating bodies; understanding of a Food Production facility.
* Proven experience of driving improvements in site standards.
* Industry acumen and knowledge of cleaning systems and methodology essential.
* Understanding of chemical components, active ingredients and their targeted use against the range of microbiological activity associated with food manufacturing sites.
* Experience of budget management and reporting.
* Experience of managing waste segregation and recycling services.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate others.
* Experience of conducting training on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
* Good English written and verbal communication skills essential.
* Excellent Leadership & People Management skills.
* Planning and organising of staff, time and work schedules.
* Ability to communicate across a wide range of interested parties, including direct reports, external suppliers and other factory departments.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills.
* Computer‑literate, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
* Ability to solve problems/offer solutions.
Note: As with all positions, due to the dynamic nature of Arrow Group business, key responsibilities will evolve and change over time. Some travel will be required. Appointment to this role is subject to the candidate's eligibility to work in Ireland.
