As a Senior Leader within Dublin Bus Engineering, the Senior Engineer (Technical Office) will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of the organisation's vehicle fleet.
This role provides strategic and operational leadership across technical support, training, and continuous improvement, working closely with internal teams, manufacturers, and external stakeholders.
By driving high standards, embracing innovation, and future-proofing engineering capability, the Senior Engineer will ensure Dublin Bus remains safe, efficient, and ready to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving public transport environment.You willLead the provision of technical support regarding all fleet issues across Dublin Bus.Provide leadership to the Technical Office Team to ensure high standards in the departmentManage the Technical Training Centre to deliver the training of depot engineering employees in respect of procedures for the service, maintenance, and repair of the Dublin Bus vehicle fleetLead continuous improvement within the Technical Office through application of lean six‑sigma techniques to update / maintain SIs and SOPs and to support Engineering Dept continuous improvement overallComply with all relevant Data Protection legislationComply with Grievance Procedures, Dignity and Respect Policy, Disciplinary Procedures, and all other Dublin Bus policiesComply with all Quality, Environmental, Energy, Sustainability, Health and Safety policies and proceduresFoster good relationships with employees and relevant personnel in own area of responsibility, with Trade Unions, other departments of Dublin Bus and CIÉ Group of Companies and with relevant external agencies (specifically vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, NTA and RSA) and other stakeholdersAreas of Responsibility
Vehicle maintenance, performance and standardsCoordinate with vehicle manufacturers and parts suppliers to ensure products meet required quality standards.Work with Procurement and the Contracts Manager to develop strategies regarding parts and warranty arrangements to deliver best value for money.Work with vehicle manufacturers and sub‑suppliers recommend strategies regarding vehicle safety, reliability, efficiency (including cost), performance and presentationEnsure Technical Office support for major projects through working with PMO and Dublin Bus 5‑year organisation plans and ensure timely and adequate resourcingDevelop procedures for the service and maintenance of fleet including fault diagnostics and knowledge transferProvide input on all statutory regulations in relation to Construction, Equipment and use of Vehicles and European Whole Vehicle Type Approval ensuring compliance of Dublin Bus vehiclesDevelop and maintain 3‑year strategic plan for the Technical Office to ensure it continues to be fit for purpose given the rate of technological changeOptimise vehicle performance through a database of all appropriate service and maintenance instructions and procedures taking into account NTA contractual and manufacturers requirementsInvestigate technical problems and develop remedies in conjunction with vehicle manufacturers and sub system suppliers.
Chair regular meetings with vehicle manufacturers, agents and parts suppliersEstablish multi annual programmes to ensure upkeep of vehicle standardsSupport all locations with warranty claimsSafetyManage the production of maintenance procedures that ensure safe operation of fleet.Comply with all Health and Safety procedures and ensure procedures are followed as outlined in the Safety Management System and by the Road Safety Authority (RSA)Arrange investigations by independent consultants into serious vehicle safety incidents and implementation of recommendations in reports arising from these investigationsMake recommendations in conjunction with suppliers and manufacturers regarding the return to service of buses following incidents, to include any programmes or works required to ensure fleet safety for staff and customersTrainingProvide technical training for depot engineering employees in respect of skills, knowledge and expertise required for service and maintenance of vehiclesSupport upskilling of employees where required and recommend ongoing training to match the introduction of vehicle technologyLiaise with the Training Centre in respect of vehicle‑related training aspects for driversLiaise with Apprenticeship Programme Manager to ensure that qualifying apprentices are fit for purpose for Dublin Bus, and support apprenticeship programmes as requiredPeople ManagementProvides support and leadership to the technical office team, and manages performance of teamDevelop a positive and inclusive working environment and support competence and personal development of all employees within the teamEnsure the team are cross‑trained and proactive in keeping up to date with new technologies and methodsEncourage continuous learning across the team and support broad based knowledge development of the public transport and commercial vehicle industry.Standards and PerformanceIdentify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the Technical OfficeWorks with other departments to support continuous Improvement as requiredImplements and maintains the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) or other such systems as may be required.Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to the Technical Office and, also, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Competencies
